Lauren Wilder had the strength to break away from an abusive boyfriend, but will the past let her go. She is recuperating in Clyde, Colorado with the Colter family, her brother and his wife and a town full of caring people. But this idyllic haven cannot last, she quickly finds out exactly what the COLTERS' GIFT is and how it works.
Noah Sullivan and Liam Prescott might have been hired to find her abuser, but to them she is so much more. For the first time in their lives, more or less as brothers, they are attracted to the same woman and neither is willing to step back for the other. When they find that Lauren lied and led them down a nonexistent path they confront her to find our why. The ex is into illegal activities with cops in his pocket, she was protecting them and her brother.
Lauren knows that the time has come to face her past but, will the past break her or make her stronger? She is so much stronger with Liam and Noah but she also has Mama C (Holly) and her husbands, Adam, Ethan and Ryan; their sons Seth, Michael and Dillon and their wife Lily, her own brother Max and his wife Callie. They are all there for her. Will their love and support be enough to help her survive?
I found COLTERS' GIFT grittier, more gut-wrenching than the past Colter stories but with the trademark touches of steamy sex and romance the author [Maya Banks] is known for. Noah and Liam are exactly the type of men Lauren needs, they make mistakes but they give her what she needs, what the Colters gift is ... indisputable love and support. Her ex, whom I refuse to give a name in this review, is one of those bad guys that has no redeeming qualities and I was glad the way things ended for him. I have read all of Ms. Banks' Colter books and loved them all but I will admit that certain parts just hit me a little too hard.
Added to the end of this book is a novella that seems to be a final roundup with Lauren getting married and Lily giving birth. It is sad to see the end of this series but I understand the author's decision; where else can she go with this family? I can always reread the books and enjoy them again. Thank you Maya Banks for an unforgettable series.
