Kiki has been with the Arcane Royale dancing troupe for 50 years, it's not a hardship because she has no memory of her past life. She is about to get the shot at headlining, no more WAITING IN THE WINGS for this girl. But something strange happens, she feels an unusual need to sneak out, to find someone and have a little fun. Not that she had been a saint or anything, but it was never this strong.
Richard Casere, is the vampire Prince of New York, and he is in Las Vegas in search of his missing bride. Fifty years ago, they had an argument, one of many but they always ended with forgiveness but this time Kristina didn't come home. Arrogantly he let it go, let her cool off, he was busy after all. When he realized she had really disappeared it is too late they search but to no avail. It is only recently that he has gotten word that she is Kiki the dancer.
After compelling her to come to him at the casino, he sees she really doesn't remember him. He quickly formulates a plan to get her to forgive him for not always putting her first, for waiting so long to find her. Unfortunately he only has three days in another prince's city to do all he wants ... to find out how she got trapped by the overseers of the Royale, why he couldn't find her, find a way to get her release and make her fall in love with him again. It's a good thing he knows her so well and that he has friends who like to dig into other people's lives.
WAITING IN THE WINGS is another fantastic offering by author Heather Long. It gives you everything that you want to read in a very hot paranormal romance. You have a sexy little vampire (who has forgotten she is one), an arrogant prince vampire with a couple of macho kick-butt bodyguards, a little imp who will make you laugh, a lot of steamy sex and a mystery that you will not guess the outcome. I loved Kiki's spirit and I certainly thought she was an equal match to Richard, especially as the memories came slowly back. It was amazing to see Richard realize his mistakes and work to fix them. I especially loved Ms. Long's wicked sense of justice with the little surprise she gives us in the end. This is the third of her Soul Girls series and I hope she plans for many more, because I want them.
