In LOVER BE MINE, Lord Jack Wilde and Miss Sophie Fortin are a Regency-era Romeo and Juliet. Their families have been at odds for several generations. That feud prompts Jack's cousin to declare them a perfect match. Jack and Sophie are instantly attracted to one another, but Sophie's father swears he will never forgive the Wilde family for the deadly duel that kept him from inheriting a title.
Many elements of this story felt contrived to me. Jack and Sophie have never even met when the Wilde family matchmaker declares them the perfect couple. Even the promise of a royal title isn't enough to sway Sophie's father's opinion of Jack, but he can be bought in other ways. Sophie tells Jack she must follow her family's commands, but at every opportunity, she goes against their wishes and risks her own reputation. I felt that even the requisite happy ending was marred by Jack's final agreement with his biological father.
LOVER BE MINE is part of Nicole Jordan's Legendary Lovers series that began with Princess Charming in January 2012.
