LOSING CONTROL by Nina Croft is the story of two best friends/boss-employee, Jake Knight, the CEO of Knight Securities and Kimberly Rawlings, Kim a Security expert and aspiring gun-slinging Bodyguard. Four years after the break-up of a loveless and abusive marriage Kim had finally come into her own and she is ready to take on a lover. Jake who has had a secret crush on her for all these years volunteers. But Kim is not easily convinced. LOSING CONTROL is very much the journey of just that, letting go of one's past and giving up control of the present. It follows Jake in his relentless pursuit and very sexy seduction of Kim, with her fighting him every step of the way.
I really loved LOSING CONTROL it is such a romantic story but also has some humor and sadness in it. I really loved both of the characters but Jake stood out to me the most, he is very charming, noble, patient, determined and loyal and Kimberly is who he wants but she doubts herself and feels as though because of her loveless marriage she wont and will never be good enough for him.
Kimberly doesn't know how Jake feels and that he is in love with her and will stop and nothing to be with her. The characters were both very lovable and both had their insecurities and were both willing to help the other get over those insecurities. I really loved the fact that they were friends and then went to lovers and Jake used all his kinky goodness to get Kimberly to realize what he was feeling.
The story line to LOSING CONTROL is so cute and just everything I could have wanted from a story and more. I really loved the way the story unfolded and the author did an amazing job and I can't wait to read more by Nina Croft.
Four years after escaping her abusive ex-husband, Kim
finally believes sheβs in control of her life and her
emotions and she's determined to never risk either again
with a man. She has a great home, a job as a security
specialist which she loves, and Jake for a best friend. But
things are a tad lonely in the sex department, so she
decides to embark on a no-strings-affair with one of her hot
co-workers. And who better to help her remember how to lure
a man than her best friend?
Jake has wanted Kim from the moment he first saw her, but
four years ago, she was too young and too damaged. So he
kept her close and he kept her safe, offering her a job in
his security company and the training to feel safe again,
and he bided his time. But now, after the long wait, if she
imagines heβs going to stand by while she seduces some other
guy⦠Never going to happen.
EXCERPT
βSheβs drunk,β Dave said from beside him.
βYeah.β
They watched for a second in silence. Jake took a sip of his
beer.
βIβve never seen her drunk,β Dave murmured. βItβs kind of
scary.β
βYeah.β
βAnd sheβs going to break a leg in those heels if sheβs not
careful.β
She did appear a little precariously balanced. But maybe a
leg in plaster would keep her out of trouble for a while.
And heβd have the perfect excuse to take care of her.
She stretched up and whispered something in Steveβs ear. He
shook his head, and Kim frowned. Every single one of Jakeβs
muscles locked up tight. Beside him, Dave chuckled, and he
turned to glare.
βHey, donβt take it out on me.β Dave threw up a hand. βItβs
not my fault your love life is a total load of crap.β
That was true, he supposed. Jake forced his muscles to relax.
βBut all the same,β Dave continued, βIβve got to say that
itβs been amusing as hell to watch.β He grinned. βHow the
mighty have fallen.β
βFuck off.β
βWhy donβt you tell her how you feel?β
βBecause sheβd run a mile in the opposite direction.β
βYup, youβre screwed."
Jake cast a glance in Kimβs direction. She was definitely
drunk. He sighed. βNo, not tonight, Iβm not.β
Dave laughed.
Yeah, Jake was a real funny guy. Heβd had enough. The party
was over and not only for him. He placed his bottle
carefully on the table and rose to his feet. βIβd better
take her home.β
βGood luck.β
Kim glanced in their direction, and a smile flashed across
her face. Mascara smudged under her eyes, her crimson
lipstick was long gone, yet she was still utterly gorgeous.
A pain tightened around his heart; the problem was that he
wasnβt used to not getting what he wanted. He didnβt know
how to deal.
She waggled her fingers in his direction and started to wend
her unsteady way across the small, almost-empty dance floor.
She met him halfway and stared up at him through panda eyes.
βJakey, will you dance with me?β
Jakey? No one had ever called him βJakeyβ in his life before.
βPleeeease. Iβve asked everyone else, and theyβre all too
scared of you. Even Mitch and heβs the one leaving.β She
frowned. βHe said youβd likely hunt him down.β
βHeβs right.β
She ignored his comment. βI told them youβre nice, but no
one believes me. I think youβre nice, Jakey.β She blinked at
him. βSo will you dance with me? Pretty please.β She slid
her hands over his shoulders and stared into his face. βWhy
did you have to spoil it all?β
He wasnβt sure what she was talking about, so best keep his
answers vague. βDid I?β
βYou did. You scratched my itch. It was wonderful,
mind-blowing. You are definitely well endowed, and you knew
exactly what to do with it.β
βThank you.β Christ, she was going to regret this
conversation in the morningβwhen he reminded her of it. The
thought gave him a glimmer of satisfaction.
βI thought it could work, that we could be fuck buddies, and
it would be lovely. But you had to go and ruin everything.β
βI did?β
βYou said the M-word, and now itβs all broken.β She heaved a
huge sigh. βYouβre supposed to be dancing.β She tightened
her grip on his shoulders and tugged him closer.
How could he resist such an offer? βFive minutes and weβre
out of here.β
Five minutes of purgatory.
He tried to hold his body away from hers, but after the
first thirty seconds, he figured what the hell? He slipped
his hands around her waist and pulled her against him. Kim
rested her head on his chest and swayed slowly to the music,
which was impressive considering it was a fast rock track.
Closing his eyes, he reveled in the feel of her long,
slender body pressed against his. It was torture. Blood
throbbed in his dick, and his balls ached.
Finally, he could take no more. He pulled away. She tried to
hold on for a second but then gave in.
βCome on, Iβll take you home.β
βAre you going to look after me? Keep me safe.β
βDonβt I always?β
Her lips curved up in a sweet smile, and she nodded
solemnly. βYou wonβt take advantage of my inebriated state.β
It wasnβt a question. βYou know I wonβt.β
βI told you, you were nice.β
βYeah, so you did.β
He was so not getting screwed tonight.
