Fallon is relatable, sassy and someone readers wouldn't mind befriending, typical for a Ray heroine. Her vulnerability coupled with her feistiness and independence makes it unlikely that she will yield to the sparks of attraction and desire between them for more than a fling.

Ray also always writes romantic heroes that leap off the page, Lance being the latest in a string of hunks who are loving and romantic as they are accomplished. Lance's vulnerability coupled with his steely determination and unparalleled success makes it seem implausible that these two will ever have more than a brief interlude. Yet, in the end, love—sure, real and enviable—always wins the day.
