Sharpshooters make shooting look easy, but that skill comes
with years of practice and practice is needed to keep it
up. So even on his R and R to fully recover from
his harrowing experiences in New York City, Navy SEAL
Jordan Gulok heads for a shooting salon before a night
on the town.
Impressed with his incredible skill, the co-owners of the
shooting gallery Tito Garza and Bartolomeo ponder whether
they can trust him or not for their own clandestine
purposes, but needing a shooting instructor, they offer him
a part-time job. Meanwhile, Jordan senses his own reasons
not to trust them, but takes the job just to find own what
might be going on.
Many people are fooled as to who Jordan really is. Often
mistaken for an oriental person, he seldom tells them
differently if that suits his purposes. As an Inuk, Jordan
was born in the high northern Arctic tundra of Canada and
very few in Miami are familiar with Inuit or with their
related people, the Eskimos in Alaska, where Jordan later
when to university. Far fewer get told or find out that he
does independent covert operations and reports directly to
Admiral Benjamin. If checked or anything happens to him,
they would get total denial.
From his Inuit roots, Jordan has been taught to pay
attention to his instincts and to trust them. The wisdom of
his elders had been breathed into his bones and the
instincts that twig to little anomalies. In the Arctic,
small changes can cause big problems and the difference
between life or imminent death. So, the little discrepancy
between the street number of the shooting salon and the
number on the door mat caught Jordan's attention and
especially when he sees it later written in graffiti on
some walls. Just what is 417 all about?
After being directed by his Haitian taxi driver to a
nightclub in Lemon City (La Petite Haiti), Jordan is
entranced by the silvery voice of the elegant singer
Claudette Basile. Then, at the club, the down and out
alcoholic ex-pat Brit Neville Moorhead recognizes him and
scrounges off him, but Jordan is glad to get some info from
him even as he knows Neville is just scamming the
tourists. Later, when Neville is murdered, Jordan realizes
something big is happening. But what is it and what does
it have to do with 417? If that isn't enough, when he does
call in with the intel, he can't even get any equipment or
support due to the budget cuts. He had been cut off from
support before, but not like this? Can he really take on
what might be going on?
Well known and bestselling author Stefan Kanfer has batted
the ball right out of the ballpark and created a real
winner with THE ESKIMO HUNTS IN MIAMI! I really enjoyed
Kanfer's debut first book, THE ESKIMO HUNTS IN NEW YORK,
but even that didn't prepare me for how spellbinding this
second book in the series would be! I got totally caught
up in this latest one and just could not put it down until
I had finished it!
Jordan Gulok is a very appealing and engaging protagonist
as well as having the most unique background I have
encountered in this genre. Like a small ice floe in a big
ocean, Gulok is cut off from his own people, except for
whispers of stories in his mind, as well as from his
adopted navy SEAL family. Yet, despite his fears, he is
courageous and is both resilient and resourceful as he
takes on those who cause trouble for his adapted country.
In this adventure, Gulok is pulled into the Haitian and
Cuban communities and subcultures and whose peoples now
live on the streets named long ago for the Jewish people
who once were the prime inhabitants of Miami in the past.
As Kanfer writes from the viewpoint and feelings of his
characters, they all come instantly alive in a very real
way. The reader can easily visualize the differing worlds
of the lovely and strong Claudette Basile, her friends
Célèbre, the nightclub owner, and Hector, the resourceful
Haitian librarian as well as that of Washington
Congressman Miles Ewen and the others involved.
Kanfer is a very well experienced writer with years of
research skills and he brings a depth of information and
credibility to THE ESKIMO HUNTS IN MIAMI that his fans, new
and existing, will relish in this exciting and explosive
adventure involving Haitian and Cuban émigrés in Miami! I
sure hope that Kanfer is planning many more books in this
series as I just can't wait to see where this "team of one"
SEAL ends up next! This is one sizzling hot story you
don't want to miss! Enjoy!!
Jordan Gulok is off for a little R&R in Miami, but he must
maintain his skills. He frequents a firing range where he
stumbles upon a paramilitary group called the 417s. Is an
anti-gun US Congressman somehow entangled in a plot to raid
several military arms storage depots? The 417s are poised to
visit a fresh hell on the Caribbean if Jordan, his lovely
ally and her edgy colleagues can't stop them.
