Suspense | Thriller

Even after 10 years, Simon Fisk still has trouble dealing with the disappearance of his young daughter and the subsequent suicide of his wife. His atonement was to quit his job as a U.S. Marshall and to use his expertise recovering children taken by their non-custodial parent. However, Simon has made it a rule not to take stranger abduction cases, since it reminds him too much of his own loss.

When the French police request Simon's help after a six- year-old girl disappears from a Paris hotel, he refuses. But Simon's involvement in an earlier case in France ended badly and the police threaten to prosecute if he does not take this case. Simon has no other choice than to search for the missing girl.

In a hunt that takes him from France to Poland, Germany, the Ukraine and finally Belarus, Simon quickly learns trust is an issue as he encounters thieves, gangsters, crooked lawyers and corrupt police. With the assistance of Polish criminal lawyer Ana Staszk, Simon is shocked with what he discovers and how much it will change his life.

Douglas Corleone's GOOD AS GONE is a compelling international thriller filled with lots of nasty characters -- as well as some noble ones. Simon Fisk is an action-hero with immense abilities who gets the job done even though he hates to kill people. Plot development progresses at breakneck speed to a clever resolution.

SUMMARY

A former U.S. Marshal, haunted by his own daughter's disappearance, investigates a child abduction which becomes a terrifying international chase in a standalone from Douglas Corleone

Former U.S. Marshal Simon Fisk works as a private contractor, tracking down and recovering children who were kidnapped by their own estranged parents. He only has one rule: he won't touch stranger abduction cases. He's still haunted by the disappearance of his own daughter when she was just a child, still unsolved, and stranger kidnappings hit too close to home.

Until, that is, six–year–old Lindsay Sorkin disappears from her parents' hotel room in Paris, and the French police deliver Simon an ultimatum: he can spend years in a French jail, or he can take the case and recover the missing girl. Simon sets out in pursuit of Lindsay and the truth behind her disappearance. But Lindsay's captors did not leave an easy trail, and following it will take Simon across the continent, through the ritziest nightclubs and the seediest back alleys, into a terrifying world of international intrigue and dark corners of his past he'd rather leave well alone.

Re: The abduction of a young girl has unbelievable ramifications for investigator Simon Fisk.

Good as Gone is one magnificent ride with action, empathy,
human relationships and taut suspense. The scenes written
about the many cities and countries are vivid and well
written. The character of the former US Marshall tormented
about his kidnapped daughter and the death of his wife and
his new career of helping find children kidnapped by a
family member is so well written; you will be pulling for
him to accomplish his current quest Hopefully this
character will be explored again in another novel! This is
one fast ride!
