It only takes one indiscriminate event to alter the course
of one's life. Callum had no real interest in the beautiful
woman he wound up in bed with - he was looking for an
escape. He had no reason to feel guilty since the woman
Chrystal shared his desire for a quick fling. However the
fling produced a beautiful baby named Nell and Callum's
self imposed life as a recluse is about to be invaded.
Chrystal's sister Avery became Nell's guardian after her
sister's sudden death. Cast into the role of mother was
going to be a challenge but one Avery was well equipped
for. As a single mother she lacked a support staff. In her
heart she knew the right thing was to make Nell's father
aware that he had a child and from what she remembered
Callum was a handsome outgoing rather large man. But that's
not who answered the door to Avery and Nell. This Callum
wasn't anything like the man she and her sister had met at
their friend's wedding. This man was cold, aloof and very
suspicious of her motives for bringing this baby to meet
him.
Avery's plan was simple. She knew Nell needed to get to
know her father and spend time together. She and Callum led
very separate lives so father and daughter would only have
short periodic visits. There was no bridging this gap and
Callum's distinctly unfriendly and cool reception actually
gave Avery some measure of relief. The last thing she
wanted was a challenge to her rights as guardian. Nell was
her life now. She couldn't face the possibility of losing
her.
Time heals wounds and spending time with Nell and Avery was
thawing Callum's heart. Somehow this time with both was
giving him hope he had long thought forever lost to him.
Something he felt he didn't deserve. His past haunted him
and basically had charted the course his life was following
as a recluse. That would have to change now.
Avery's path was equally filled with pitfalls. At some
point she had to get past her insecurities of never
measuring up to her gorgeous sister. She needed to feel
that for one time in her life, she had finally caught
someone's attention. But how do you get past the undeniable
fact that the one man who has caught your eye and maybe
your heart chose your sister. At that wedding Callum went
after Chrystal not Avery and Nell would forever be proof.
Love is the answer. With it comes the desire to trust and
connect with others. Donna Alward's message in this
heartwarming story is with love there's hope. She provided
delightful and snappy dialog between two characters filled
with doubts of their self worth. Alward's determination for
them to discover their specialness and forgive their
missteps is a valuable lesson indeed. The author's strength
is in bringing her characters to life and keeping them
real. LITTLE COWGIRL ON HIS DOORSTEP is a truly enjoyable
tale of two people who
deserve to find their special someone who will compliment
and support them. And perhaps most important in any
relationship is to make a person feel special. That's the
joy in reading LITTLE COWGIRL ON HIS DOORSTEP.
