The Paladin warriors were once angels who gave up their wings in order to help save humanity against the evil propagated by Lucifer and his minions on earth. Each of the warriors has special gifts granted to them by God in order to battle against demons and an assortment of hellish creatures.

DELIVER ME FROM TEMPTATION is the second book in Tes Hilaire's Paladin Warrior series and this novel blends more of the elements of paranormal romance and urban fantasy and should appeal to fans of both genres. Hilaire has created a unique blend of mythology and fantasy into her world-building that doesn't feel too stifled by religious dogma even though it is based on Christianity. This is a paranormal romance so you get plenty of action, profanity, and adult situations. Also, the novel can be read as a stand-alone without much loss to the story, but if you are anything like me then it is preferable to read the series in order.

In DELIVER ME FROM TEMPTATION, our protagonists are Logan Calhoun and Jessica Waters. Logan is an immortal Paladin warrior and the son of the head of the council of Paladins. Logan's father is brusque, stern, and unflinching and expects his son to follow in his footsteps in leading the warriors. This causes much conflict between the two and shapes Logan's behavior. Logan feels bound to his duties to the Paladin and yet cannot fight the growing attraction he has to Jessica, a human. Jessica is a tough-as-nails cop with a serious stubborn streak, so much that it often leads her into trouble.

I always prefer my female leads to be strong, powerful women who can take care of themselves, but at times I felt that being so headstrong nearly got her killed too often in this story. Jessica's quest for justice surpassed any common sense and she often charged into dangerous situations without informing her partner or anyone else. The detective is fueled by an overwhelming need for justice due to the loss of her twin sister, who was gang-raped and murdered years ago. Both Logan's duty to God and the Paladins and Jessica's need for justice fuel their conflict and hinder the growth of their relationship until they work through their issues.

The romance is a slow burn that eventually ignites into a roaring inferno that sets up a spicy love between these two interesting characters. DELIVER ME FROM TEMPTATION has many secondary characters and we get some insight into Valin's search for his lost love and will be the focus of the next Paladin book. Tes Hilaire has brought a scorching read to lovers of paranormal romance and I am looking forward to the next book!
