Charlotte Gale lives by her music. Fiddle music gives her the wild power to achieve her goals. Surrounded by Aunts and other family possessing wild powers, keeps "Charlie" striving to keep one step ahead. Taking the 14 year old twin under her wing adds even more chaos to her life. Jack is the dragon Prince and sorcerer not yet coming into his full power.
Charlie is drawn into becoming an ally of a group of Selkies, fighting against offshore drilling and imminent oil spills and pollution. From mine caves under the sea to transporting herself back in time, Charlie has the added chore of working to offset the damage her Aunt Catherine has caused by stealing the seal pelts to further the drilling project. Set on stopping the drilling, Charlie, the Selkies and other Gale members are caught up in surprising and uncanny lightning storms among attacks by Goblins, a fierce troll that nearly ends her life and Boggarts. All of this is in the effort of retrieving the pelts and putting a stop to the drilling. Charlie will finally come into herself with the realization of what her magic and wild powers are.
THE WILD WAYS is extremely fast paced with many characters to sort through and activity completely alien to a regular reader like me. I had a hard time getting into the story with all the Fey, Goblins and Selkie terms, but the story finally fit together closer to the end of the book. There is definitely a lot there to peak the brain as well as a world full of excitement for readers.
