Risa Jones is back and fighting to survive in DARKNESS
HUNTS. The part werewolf and part Aedh is being pulled in a
number of directions all at once. She has been ordered by
her Aedh father to search for missing Keys; others want
them found so that they can permanently close heaven and
hell; Madeline Hunter, the scary vampire in charge of the
Directorate, is using her to work secretly for the vampire
council; and on the normal side of things she is trying to
run a restaurant with her two best friends.
With her life in this utter turmoil she has to come to
terms with her nearly non-existant love life. Lucian had
been "helping" her search for the keys and admitted he is
seeking revenge on the ones who stripped him of his power.
That she accepted, but she begins to wonder just how far he
is willing to go to take that revenge. She's afraid he has
gone as far as putting a compulsion on her. She is part
wolf, after all, and enjoys being with him, but a girl
wants to be wanted for herself not as a tool. Then there is
her reaper, Azriel, whom she feels a growing attraction and
she knows he feels the same but he is afraid that he will
be forced to remain as he is if he allows himself the
deeper emotion he is starting to feel. Reapers don't feel
human emotions.
While in astral traveling to talk to a dead man about a
case, she comes upon a man killing a woman. He doesn't have
a face so she can't identify him but intrigued he promises
that if she can find the woman he will let her live. He
lies and starts taunting her with a game of search that she
can not win until the life of someone she loves comes under
the gun. This faceless man had been leading the Directorate
in circles with a number of deaths and now he wants Risa
called in to join the hunt. Rhoan, her uncle and
Directorate Guardian, is not happy but he needs her help.
Time is running out for her to find this man before he
kills again and this time someone close to her.
DARKNESS HUNTS continues the Dark Angels series
where "Darkness Devours" ends; with fast paced action;
dark, bloodcurdling moments and deepening desires that
threaten to explode. I got hooked on this author [Keri
Arthur] when she was writing the "Riley Jenson Guardian
Novels" and love that this series includes many of the
characters from that one. Ms. Arthur brings an Aussie
flavor to a fantastic urban fantasy that keeps you hanging
on for the wild ride.
Risa Jones, half-Aedh/half-werewolf, can enter the realm
between life and death. She can speak to the dying and the
dead, and she can see the reapers, collectors of souls. What
she can not yet see is the identity of a stranger murdering
women and draining their blood. Now Risa must summon her
gifts to find him, even if it means putting her own life in
danger. But Risa needn’t look far. The killer knows who
she is.
He tells her his victims are infected by darkness and he’s
fated to destroy them. Fascinated by Risa, he engages her in
a sinister game: the chance to save the life of his next
victim by deciphering his series of clues. In a race against
time, she enlists the help of the reaper Azriel.
But as an attraction between them grows, so does the fear
that the stranger’s motives are only part of a larger, more
dangerous stratagem—one that that has lured Risa and Azriel
into the dark.
