THE ENCHANTED LAND is a strong and powerful love story with a
bit of history of how people traveled out to the West in
the Gold Rush days. Living out west is very harsh, but the
temptation of gold is too strong.
Morgan Wakefeild's is in a bind, her rich father who
recently passed away has left everything to her. There is
however, one condition. She must marry a
man and live in New Mexico for one year, but Morgan has
problems with that for she's lived most of her life with
her mother in a home with no contact to the outside world.
When her mom passes away, Morgan goes to live with her
Uncle who is a very greedy man and when he hears about the
will, he tries to prevent Morgan from marrying any man. He
hides her beauty by making her wear baggy, dull clothes and
keeps her hidden from society.
Morgan is allowed to attend a ball, held shortly before she
is to leave for Europe. Her uncle has planned the trip as a
way of preventing her from marrying. Morgan decides that
she must ask a man to
marry her, while at the ball she over hears
that Seth Coulter owns a ranch in New Mexico. She
approaches Seth and offers him twenty five thousand dollars
to marry her. Seth finds this amusing, but he is also
attracted to this girl of mystery. He decides to accept
her offer and the two journey on to New Mexico.
Seth and Morgan fall in love with each other on their way
to New Mexico, but fate deals them a deck of evil doings.
They must fight for their love. Lies, jealousy, and fate
makes them turn against each other. What will be their
destiny in this harsh land, but enchanted land? If
you love stories of the old west, THE ENCHANTED LAND is a
must read.
Even if you don't, it's a hot read!
Morgan is a lovely heroine. I loved the fact that she is
beautiful, but it's not rubbed into readers' face. It's
more of a decision that the reader has to make for themself.
Seth is the guy that you want to knock out, he's actually
frustrating at times, but that makes the read all that more
interesting as the story travels on.
New Mexico is such
an interesting setting, and Jude Deveraux makes it come
alive for readers. I could feel the heat, and I was
caught up in the world she wrote for us. Morgan and Seth do
separate for some time due to Seth's wild imagination and
distrust of Morgan, but there's another good looking man
waiting in the wings for Morgan. Does she go back to Seth
or start anew with another man? You must read THE ENCHANTED
LAND to find out for yourself.
Jude Deveraux is one of my fav authors of Historical
Romance. THE ENCHANTED LAND just like
all of her books kept my attention and I am moved by her
writing skills.
For beautiful Morgan Wakefield, that land lay west of the
bluegrass splendors of her Kentucky home . . . and within
the powerful embrace of Seth Colter—the handsome rancher
with whom she had struck a bargain that would change her
life. Beneath the star-studded New Mexico skies Colter
awakened in Morgan a woman's passion, stoking the sensuous
fires of a bold, tempestuous romance. Though fate would make
them enemies, theirs was a love that would endure, never to
be forsaken.
