Romance Historical

THE LAST RENEGADE brings Kellen Coltrane to the Pennyroyal Saloon and Hotel in the place of a hired shootist he meet and watched die on a train. This man called himself Nat Church, the name of a very famous dime novel hero, a hero that Kellen knows well. Nat had been on his way to the Pennyroyal to help out a lady named Lorraine Berry in Bitter Springs in the territory of Wyoming. Once there and Kellen meets the "Widder" Berry, he introduces himself as Nat Church's accomplice and has a feeling he's step into something big.

Lorraine Berry had hired Nat Church, answering a newspaper advertisement, to come to Bitter Springs and protect the townspeople from the Burdick family. It seems the family was taking revenge on those who had found Isaac Burdick guilty of rape and sent him off to federal prison. Though he never made it to prison the Burdick's wanted to punish all involved and Lorraine didn't want anyone else to die because they stood up to them for her sister, Ellen.

Kellen begins to investigate the Burdick brothers using the cover that he is a writer doing stories on ranchers in the area. He is confusing to everyone, including Lorraine, because he almost seems like this writer but he also acts like a gunman. And on Kellen's part he tries but he cannot fight the growing attraction to the "Widder" Berry. And the more of her story that he hears the more protective and possessive he feels.

THE LAST RENEGADE is a captivating story. It is filled with action, verbal conflict, warm romance and a lot of intrigue. The mysteries surrounding the main characters is given to you in bits and pieces that makes readers keep reading to get the answers of who these people really are. There are a number of surprises, which will make you sit back and say, "How did the author come up with that?" Ms. Goodman has an amazing way as a storyteller that makes you want to hear more from her.

SUMMARY

As the owner of the Pennyroyal Saloon and Hotel, Lorraine Berry is privy to almost everything that goes on in Bitter Springs, Wyoming—including the bloodshed plaguing its citizens. With all of the good men dying at the hands of a local rancher and his three sons, Raine hires a shootist to be the town’s protector. But her handsome new employee is more than a hired hand; he’s a man that keeps his guns close and his secrets closer.

After a chance encounter on a train, Kellen Coltrane travels to the Pennyroyal to carry out a dying man’s last wish. But once he meets the hotel’s fiery-haired proprietor, Coltrane finds himself assuming the role of the shootist’s accomplice and agrees to protect Bitter Springs. And as he learns more about Raine’s own tragedy, Coltrane can’t deny his growing desire for the courageous widow, or the urge to protect her from the threat that draws near…
