In DARK STORM BY CHRISTINE FEEHAN we not only get Dax and
Riley's story but we also get to visit with some characters
from previous books. Riley is on a trek to the rain forest
with her mother. The trip to the rain forest is not new to
them but on this trip it seems that evil has chosen to make
itself known. Riley and her mother are descendants of
Arabejila; a female Carpathian that had special gifts and
long ago had to make a hard decision concerning her
lifemate; Mitro. Dax was part of that decision and now
along with Mitro he is free. Along with friends and family
the three must band together to stop Mitro.
Christine Feehan takes the reader to another place and
another direction with this book. Both Riley and Dax are a
change from the regular Carpathian's and their lifemates.
Dax lets Riley help more instead of hiding her to keep her
safe and even though he is an ancient one he still trusts
and makes adjustments to the new world he has arrived in.
Some things do go against everything that we have learned
about the Carpathians in previous books and were a bit
confusing as to why they were that way with this book. Yet
if you are an avid fan and have read the previous books you
will catch on to information that has been mentioned in them
and that carry on in this book as well. I did miss the
conflict between the main characters, it seemed that the
relationship between Riley
and Dax was instant and there was not as much
conflict between them as previous couples. I would have
enjoyed a bit more of their character and relationship
development. The two do make a great couple and I did enjoy
seeing the bond that they formed. The love that they share
makes for a beautiful read.
DARK STORM is a fresh new look at this series and answers
many questions while asking many more and keeping this
reader eager for the next installment in this series.
A DARK STORM IS ON THE HORIZON… Return to Christine Feehan’s “steamy and dreamy” (Publishers Weekly) world of her New York Times bestselling Carpathian novels as roiling passions collide in a perfect storm of dangerous desire that only a precious few can hope to outrun… Awakening after all this time in a world of absolute darkness and oppressive heat, Dax wonders in how many ways the world above must have changed. But it is how he has changed that fills him with dread and loathing. Buried alive for hundreds of years in a volcano in the Carpathian Mountains, Dax fears that he has become the full-fledged abomination that every Carpathian male fears, a victim of the insidious evil that has crept relentlessly into his mind and body over the centuries. But there are some things that never change. His name is Mitro, the vampire Dax had hunted all these long centuries. Second in command to the prince of the Carpathian people he is the epitome of everything malevolent, and perpetrator of one of the most shocking killing sprees known to man—and beast. Even his friends and family weren’t safe from Mitro’s bloodlust. Neither was Mitro’s lifemate, Arabejila, an extraordinary woman with extraordinary gifts. But now that Dax has re-emerged, so too has Mitro. The ultimate battle between good and evil has been re-engaged. Between Dax and Mitro, a violent game has begun—one that has marked Riley Parker, the last descendent of Arabejila, as the reward.
