Once upon a time there was a magic wedding gown. It
belonged to the Callahan family where it was coveted and
happily handed down from one bride to another. Supposedly
in this wedding gown the bride will see the man of her
dreams. It certainly worked in the last few wearings. So
many legends surround this family and the various ranches
they own. It makes it difficult to separate myths from
truth but in affairs of the heart who cares.
Tempest has had an amazing acting career. Not too
surprising for a gorgeous statuesque blond bombshell. It
is fun playing parts and having fans that adore you. She
knows this career affords her a lifestyle she never
imagined as a kid growing up in a very small town. Her past
was nothing to brag about. Oftentimes she had little to eat
and her mother never managed to create a stable home. For
most of the time it was just her and her mother. When her
mother's husband left her mother started a relation with a
widower with three sons. They never really became a family
and if she were honest with herself that's what Tempest
wants more than anything.
Tempest never envisioned herself back in her hometown. Once
home she meets this gruff ex-military man who makes her feel
adored and she quite brazenly decides to spend as much time
with him as possible. She knew there was no future in it.
But he makes returning home easier for her.
Shaman Phillips was pretty surprised being on the receiving
end of a lot of attention from this gorgeous blonde. He was
fully aware that as a war veteran he had some very
noticeable scars not to mention a less than welcoming
manner. And yet here is Tempest showing up with picnic
baskets offering him a lot more than just good eats. Their
times together are sexually amazing and yet leaves a decided
void when they are apart.
This is to be a tryst with no involvement of the heart.
But pretty soon it becomes evident that Tempest is more
than just a welcome distraction to a rather hermit
existence. Tempest is good at setting up road blocks and
running away from becoming fully invested in any kind of
long term commitment. But then there is a surprising
development. Tempest finds out she is pregnant and Shaman
fully expects them to be married. Neither is ready for
this and so they agree to a temporary marriage.
Nothing temporary about love. And now there seems to be
someone in town holding quite a grudge against Tempest and
is not above hurting anyone in their way. Life is
definitely getting complicated in this small sleepy town.
Lots of ah moments in this latest Callahan story. Leonard
knows how to make you smile with some of the most endearing
characters around. Her characters have gumption and are
about as stubborn as can be but by the end of the book they
have won your heart. Tough cowboys and the woman who rope
them in, nobody does it better than Tina Leonard.
Soldier. Cowboy. Father. Husband?
