The fictional town of Jubilee welcomes us once again in the
next installment in this series. Each time we are
introduced to people with very real problems with no easy
solutions. But even so there is just the hint of a miracle
or fate stepping in after all it's the season. So be
prepared to be charmed by some really special people.
Every girl dreams of finding her knight in shining armor,
her prince charming -- or in the case of Lisette her very
own cowboy. And the fortune teller reinforced her fantasy.
She was to have a cowboy in her future. Of course this is
Texas -- what better way to have the odds in her favor.
When Lisette meets Jake he totally fits the bill, looks and
sounds like all the movie cowboys and she loses her heart.
That's how she finds herself in Jubilee Texas with her two
year old son Kyle. What she never expected was that she
would be a young military widow facing enormous financial
and emotional challenges. It seems that now that list is
growing longer.
Lisette is denied certain military monetary benefit since
Jake essentially was killed pursuing a matter not ordered
or condoned by his superiors. She is relying on her baking
skills to provide a somewhat less than substantial living
for herself and her son. Now Kyle has been diagnosed with a
genetically caused problem that is slowly but surely
robbing him of his hearing. According to the physicians and
specialists there is no cure. Lisette is left to her own
devices to find ways to help Kyle not only cope but become
a self sufficient confident person. Pretty tall order
considering she has no idea where to even begin this
arduous task.
Rafferty Jones is in Jubilee on a personal mission. He has
been named beneficiary of his half brother Jake's military
insurance. He can't really figure out why since they hadn't
met until just a few years ago and even then for just a
short while. Life for Rafferty had been difficult. He grew
up quickly doing his best for his siblings and for a mother
who needed him more than he did her. That tells quite a
lot
about their dysfunctional family life. Meeting Jake had
been an eye opening experience for Rafferty, this was the
older brother he dreamed of having and in even a short
amount of time the connection between the two of them was
rock solid.
But Rafferty knew the money needs to go to Jake's widow
and son so off to Jubilee he goes leaving his ranch in
California in capable hands. This trip shouldn't take long;
the widow needs the money and would probably be grateful
to receive it. Rafferty never counted on that widow being
the very stubborn Lisette who on principle would not accept
a penny. She just can't wrap her mind around why Jake
would have done that. Sure their marriage had become
strained and it didn't speak well that Jake reenlisted when
he should have made their marriage and their son his
priority.
Rafferty brought with him so much more than just money. He
was caring and supportive and he listened without judging.
Lisette was in dire need of all those things. So they
formed a kind of family with Rafferty helping train a
cutting horse presumably to sell at an event. But most
important is the fact that he could help her adapt to the
pressures and demands of raising Kyle. Rafferty is well
versed in dealing with a deaf person. Of all the people in
Lisette's life here is the one person who doesn't see her
as she describes herself -- tofu that derives its taste
through other ingredients. Lisette in her eyes is a
nonentity valued only because she is the caring person who
bent to others expectations. All that is going to change --
it has to -- she has to be the take charge person, Kyle's
future depends on it.
Somewhere along this road to independence Lisette finds the
someone who could really matter to her. Any relationship
with Rafferty could come with a truckload of issues. But
since when is love easy.
Lori Wilde is a romantic at heart. She is the diva of the
happy ending storyline where with love anything is
possible. Once again her hero is sexy and her heroine up to
the challenge of giving as good as she gets. Perfect
formula for a beautiful love story for the season of
mistletoe and tinsel.
Lissette Moncrief has had a tough stretch. Her late husband left his life insurance to a half-brother she’s never heard of. Now her son needs a series of tests that require plenty of time and money--two things she’s very short on. At the end of a very long day, the last thing she needs is to get into a fender bender with a cowboy. Of course, that was before she had any idea how quickly that cowboy could change her life. Rafferty Jones was blown away by the beauty of the woman in front of him--even if she had backed into his truck. She was clearly having a bad day, and all he wanted to do was take her troubles off her hands. But putting himself out for others had long gotten him nowhere, and he had a life to get back to in California...as soon as he returned the life insurance money he’d had no business receiving. But when the woman from the parking lot and the woman he feels he robbed turn out to be one and the same, Rafferty knows he just might be in Jubilee to stay...and just in time for the holidays.
