Raine McCord is a wraith. She is one of 12 enforcers sent to keep magical beings in line. There are four houses of magic -- the Fey, shifters, witches, and demons -- known as the Kyn. The Kyn live alongside humans, but are essentially unknown except for a few highly placed government and military officials.

A series of murders and inquiries into the Kyn start Raine and fellow wraith Gavin Durand on an investigation that leads to the corporation that may be behind the experiments that tortured Raine as a teenager and killed her mother. Raine is tormented by her past and unsure who, if anyone, she can trust. Gavin is in the dark about Raine's past and her hiding the truth puts him in grave danger. Can Gavin win Raine's trust in time for them to get to solve their case? Can they stop future experiments against the Kyn?

SHADOW'S EDGE is the first book in The Kyn Kronicles. Jami Gray does a wonderful job of creating real characters that seem to jump right off the page and into your imagination. The more I read, the more I became invested in Raine and her story -- she is tough as nails, yet still has an honest vulnerability that she hides so well behind her knives and leather. Ms. Gray has done such an amazing job with creating the world of the Kyn and weaving her story that as you read, the supernatural and human worlds just meld into one seamlessly. I thoroughly enjoyed SHADOW'S EDGE and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
