It's a dark time in the world of others. A group of mages
and turned witches are stealing others. It began with a
witch or two missing but its progressed to a whole
community of others being taken. Lark Jaansen the hunter
for Clan Gennessee is brought to the heart of the darkness
in Seattle, Washington's Clan Owen. When Lark steps off the
plane, Simon can't believe this is who is supposed to save
their world. This so called hunter is tiny and reminds him
of a pixie. What color is that in her hair? No colors,
pink, blue? And what is she wearing; she looks like a bag
lady with layers of baggy clothes hanging off her. As Lark
approaches Simon holding the sign with her name he gets a
closer look and sees the heart of a soldier in her eyes.
Lark is amped up and ready to battle. She walks down the
tarmac towards a sexy man holding a sign bearing her name.
Hmmm he looks yummy in that Armani suit. There is something
different about him, what is he? Not a werewolf but
something close his energy is amazing. Simon introduces
himself and reveals he is a Lupine prince from the other
side of the Veil. Simon takes Lark to his manor and Lark
thinks to herself that he seem very much like a prince in
his brand name suits, fast cars and his enormous estate,
but she can feel his fierce warrior energy just below the
surface.
Simon and Lark form an instant bond working together to
find what is at the cause of the disappearances. They
discover it's the Magister and its preying on the others
for their magick. What is the Magister? Uncovering the
mystery of who or what it is could mean the difference
between life and death to the world of others. In CHAOS
BURNING the dichotomy of good versus evil, light versus
dark adds depth to an already thrilling plot. The chemistry
between Simon and Lark is intoxicating.
CHAOS BURNING is the second book in Lauren Dane's Bound by
Magick Series. I was entranced by book one, Heart of
Darkness and didn't think it was possible to make it
better, but Dane did just that with CHAOS BURNING. In her
second book we are thrust deeper in the world of others and
Dane's depiction of their world is mesmerizing. I fell in
love with Lark and Simon and kept biting my nails waiting
to see how they are going to save their world and whether
or not they could save one another. And just when you
think you know how it will end Dane throws a brilliant
twist in the story. I recommend beginning with book one but
this can be read as a standalone. Too bad we have to wait
until February for book three Going Under.
Born into a treacherous family legacy, Lark Jaansen is
accustomed to the hostility and unrest that shapes her
future. A well trained hunter in Clan Gennessee, Lark
finds few peers that can match her militaristic strength
until she encounters Simon Leviathan. Simon admires Lark’s
resilience and they are quickly caught up in a burning
passion. When war breaks out, humans and witches are
locked in conflict, vampires rise, and Lark and Simon
discover that the evil Magister is the force behind the
unrest. Finding this single, hungry entity is their first
hope. Surviving it is their last.
