Even though seductive serial killer Gretchen Lowell is
currently locked up in a mental institution, she still
finds ways to manipulate police detective Archie Sheridan.
Now she is having her shrink send urgent messages to Archie
concerning a horrific murder case he's investigating.
At first, Archie refuses the calls, but when it becomes
apparent Gretchen does know something that could help the
case, Archie finds he must face this demon one more time.
He finds a woman changed from what he remembers; the drugs
she's on to control her are taking their toll on her
beauty, as well as her health. Even though he doesn't want
to believe the story she tells him, another murder has him
taking the information seriously.
Chelsea Cain delves more into Gretchen's childhood
background in KILL YOU TWICE, letting readers see more of
why she's the way she is today. As always, the murderous
chaos is sinister and significant involving the characters
we've come to know well over the past four books in this
series. The ending of KILL YOU TWICE begs for another book,
so I'm sure we'll see more of Archie and Gretchen in the
future -- here's hoping anyway.
Archie Sheridan should be healing—mentally and
physically—
from his past run-ins with serial killer Gretchen Lowell.
But while he seems to be making some progress, he's just
as haunted as the day she let him go. He tries to focus on
his work: a cyclist has come across a corpse in Mount
Tabor Park on the eastern side of Portland. The man was
gagged and hanging by his wrists from a tree, his torso
skinned. It is the brutal work of a killer bold enough to
torture his victim for hours on a sunny summer morning in
a big public park.
The investigation isn't far along before Archie gets a
call from an unlikely source. In fact, after months of
ignoring calls from a doctor at the mental hospital where
Gretchen is supposed to be locked away forever, Archie is
surprised to hear that she claims to have inside knowledge
about the new investigation, and finally agrees to see her
face-to-face. Archie is sure she is bluffing just to get
close to him, but he can't take the chance of losing his
only lead.
Wow - a female serial killer! That's a "nice change." This review is really intriguing and I'm betting it will be having the reader keep all of the lights on and chewing their nails. Oh wait - maybe that would just be me. For sure! I'm really looking forward to reading this! (Connie Fischer 3:10pm July 24, 2012)
