What would you do if you received an odd gift from a stranger? Lily is traveling to comfort a grieving friend when she is stopped by a gypsy who gives her a medallion and promises her that she will be able to "catch" a good man. When Lily arrives at her destination, she meets Mountjoy and sparks fly. Lily flirts like a pro, but maintains her innocence underneath the witty comments. The reader will love the dialogue between Lily and Mountjoy, it is easy to see how their relationship develops over the course of the novel.
Mountjoy will worry the reader at first. He is expected to marry another woman and doesn't see why he should not go through with his plans. However, meeting Lily has certainly thrown a wrench in the wedding bells and the reader will be rooting for Lily. Lily and Mountjoy are clearly attracted to each other, but will Mountjoy act upon that attraction?
The most enjoyable part of NOT WICKED ENOUGH is the dialogue. The author makes the characters front and center in the novel and the plot itself is pushed along by the characters. Each character has their own personality and is reasonably well-developed. The ending is a bit of a surprise, the reader is kept on their toes, but the ending makes for a satisfying read.
When Lily Wellstone heads to the Bitterward estate to
comfort her widowed friend Eugenia, she certainly does not
have romance in mind. In fact, the playful but levelheaded
Lily is amused to no end when, en route, a Gypsy gifts her
with a beautiful medallion, claiming it will ensnare the
romantic desires of a stranger.
