Jenna Bouvier lives a coveted life, one of few
responsibilities coupled with wealth, beauty, love and
power. Except Jenna doesn't know her power, a fact
excruciatingly obvious by the extent to which she allows her
mother-in-law to control her every move. Jenna's husband
Gerard loves both the women in his life, but his mother
holds the reins not only to his career but to his marriage.
Andee Bell is a self-made woman. Through hard work, she has
acquired fame and fortune, but she believes she also has the
respect Jenna lacks. Yet, as Jenna's brother's girlfriend,
Andee wonders about Jenna's quiet faith, just as Jenna
wonders about Andee's seeming invisible, protective walls.
When Jenna takes steps to break free from her mother-in-law,
and Andee begins to question her success, tragedy strikes
and unites these two women, both of whom grasp at a freedom
they desperately need through faith and courage.
LOST AND FOUND is disturbing. Unsettling. Rattling. It is an
amazing story about a woman who has subjected herself
completely to her evil mother-in-law, through obligation,
tradition, and love, so much so that Jenna's self-esteem is
near gone. With the help of her spiritual director, Jenna
finds her voice and her wings. In doing so, she gives flight
to another, Andee, who finally finds a way to rid herself of
the guilt and shame of her past.
Ytrrup stirs the soul by skillfully breathing life into
Jenna's pain and longing. Each slight, each abuse heightens
the sense of wrong and the desire for Jenna to be free of
her tormentor.
Readers may not like Gerard for allowing his wife to be
abused so, but it becomes evident that Gerard struggles with
the desire and promise to honor his parents. Readers also
may not like Andee, not right away, but it doesn't take long
to realize her brittle edges that seemingly cause offense
mask the long-held hurt of a little girl who needs to be
healed. In Ytrrup's hands, the unsympathetic is made
sympathetic, and readers will find themselves softening, if
not tossing away, any negative feelings.
With some unexpected current day twists, LOST AND FOUND is a
dramatic look at finding the freedom of spirit that can only
come in relationship with Christ.
It appears Jenna Bouvier is losing everything: beauty,
family, and wealth. When her controlling and emotionally
abusive mother-in-law accuses Jenna of an affair with her
spiritual director and threatens to expose them, Jenna also
risks losing her reputation as a woman of faith. Will she
capitulate to her mother-in-law’s wishes again or fight for
what she holds dear? As Jenna loses her life, will she find it?
Andee Bell has found exactly what she wanted: fame, fortune,
and respect. There’s also a special man in her life—Jenna’s
brother. Despite her success, a secret quells Andee’s
contentment. As memories torment, will she find peace in a
relationship with God, or will she sabotage herself while
also taking down the only person she cares about? As Andee
finds her life, will she lose it?
Moving between San Francisco and the Napa Valley, Jenna and
Andee form an unlikely relationship that leads them to a
crossroad. They can follow familiar inclinations, or risk it
all and walk in faith.
