Mystery Cozy

Marcy Singer is the owner of her own embroidery shop in small Tallulah Falls, Oregon. With Valentine's Day fast approaching, it doesn't surprise her that she gets a bride, Cassandra, in her shop who wants help embellishing her bridal gown. What does surprise Marcy though is that the bride is a complete bridezilla who wants a vintage wedding gown embellished with jewels... in a nearly impossible time frame. The bride's mother-in-law to-be, Francesca, is found stabbed to death right outside of Marcy's shop, which puts a crimp in the plans. Francesca was carrying some of the jewels to be embroidered into the gown, but it soon looks like her murder wasn't a random act of violence, but rather that of a someone skilled and who knew what she would be carrying an when she would be at the store. Cassandra's fiance, Frederic, doesn't understand how his mother could meet such an untimely death, especially over some costume jewelry. But it is also soon discovered that the jewels were valuable, which is surprising for a woman who was jobless and about to move in with her son. Where did get these jewels? Who would have known about them? Marcy begins an investigation of her own, aided by one of the two men she's dating, who happens to be on the local police force. She sets out to discover what Francesca was hiding and whether those secrets got her killed. THREAD RECKONING is a fun mystery with compelling characters. I liked the idea of Marcy dating two different guys, but it wasn't as if she is stringing either of them along. I also liked the subplot of her ex-fiance coming back to town to try to woo her back and how she dealt with the issue. There is another relationship that formed during the book that I enjoyed watching come together, but to reveal it would spoil too much for future readers. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more about Marcy and the Seven-Year Stitch.
