New York To Dallas

Romance Suspense | Suspense | Thriller

NEW YORK TO DALLAS is the thirty-third installment in the popular In Death series from J. D. Robb and is the first to not contain the words In Death in the title. It also takes Eve from her comfort zone of New York and her normal work team into the place of her nightmares...Dallas, Texas.

Isaac McQueen was the first person Eve arrested as a rookie, but now he has managed to escape from prison, and is again on a crime spree. While there are similarities to his past crimes he is not following the same exact patterns, and he wants Eve to know he is free and to come to him so that he may exact his revenge on her for the years he spent in prison. He kidnaps a previous victim, one that Eve helped free when he was originally arrested. That victim is in Dallas and the ability to rescue her and recapture Isaac is what sends Eve and Roarke to Dallas. The rest of Eve's team is still in New York working the case from there, and Eve must rely on members of the Dallas Police Dept. to find the victim and recapture Isaac. While Eve and Roarke are smart they are unable to capture Isaac before he strikes again. How many girls and women will he be able to use in his evil ways before he is captured again?

With every In Death title Eve manages to get into the head of the perpetrator and uses that information with the assistance of her team to capture them. Being in Dallas and the nature of the crimes that Isaac commit bring Eve smashing back into her own past. I feel that being forced to confront her past and deal with it while trying to retain her professionalism was a good twist to the story and helps to move Eve into a new phase of her life. NEW YORK TO DALLAS takes a storyline that has been enjoyed by many for a long time, and gives it in my opinion an exciting new twist. It helps to somewhat soften Eve, but not to the point where we lose the Eve Dallas that we all know and love but to the point where I believe that once settled back in New York we shall see an evolution of Eve as she deals with those on her team when the next homicide comes their way.

SUMMARY

The new novel from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author, which takes readers deeper into the mind of Eve Dallas than ever before.

The number-one New York Times-bestselling author J. D. Robb presents an intense and terrifying new case for New York homicide cop Eve Dallas, one that will take her all the way to the city that gave her her name-and plunge her into the nightmares of her childhood.

When a monster named Isaac McQueen-taken down by Eve back in her uniform days-escapes from Rikers, he has two things in mind. One is to pick up where he left off, abducting young victims and leaving them scarred in both mind and body. The other is to get revenge on the woman who stopped him all those years ago.

Re: A new twist on a familiar storyline.

I love this series, and have reread many of the books. They are my favorite couple.
