Marjorie M. Liu's works are usually spectacular, and A TASTE OF CRIMSON is no exception. L.A. is divided into vampires and werewolves...oh yeah, and humans who don't trust either. Ironically, while the day-loving werewolves are forced into ghettos below the streets, the vampires reign in shiny glass highrise buildings, with the humans squashed between. However, someone is murdering vampires, possibly to mess with a proposed treaty. Michael has long been the vampire charged with bringing his kin to final justice, and Keeli Maddox finds herself siding with him to help investigate, an act that marks her as an outsider, no matter her familial connections. In addition, everyone seems to be waiting for her to go crazy and reveal the lunacy found in the Maddox blood. This isn't the best time for an inter-species romance, but when is?
Excellently written, A TASTE OF CRIMSON depicts a city divided and those who wish to see it remain so. This is a great book!
Dark, restless things prowl the L.A. streets. A series of
unexplained murders threatens to shatter an uneasy peace
among humans, vampires, and werewolves.
Keeli Maddox needs to find the answers. And now, if she and
her kin are to survive, she must trust a man as different
from her as night is from day. Michael is a slayer, a
betrayer. . . an enemy. But Keeli, herself no stranger to
shadow, knows that nobility can lurk in unexpected placesβ
and that this remarkable being who takes her breath away is
meant to be with her. . . forever. In the midst of gravest
peril, their lives are about to change, as together they
rediscover the unparalleled pleasure of skin on skin, and
the sweet, forbidden ecstasy found in a taste of crimson.
