Upon Elise Norris's 30th birthday she makes her decision to become a mother. Using a sperm bank, a beautiful daughter is delivered 3 weeks before the due date and 45 miles from her home where she was attending a craft fair. After the safe delivery of Gracie she receives a sedative to help her rest only to awaken hours later to be told her baby died of a heart ailment. Unable to fathom her perfect little daughter gone she returns to her home in Lagniappe, Louisiana back to her job of staff photographer at the local newspaper.

Fourteen months later Elise attends grief support meetings at the church where she meets a raven haired Jared Coleman who lost his wife 9 months ago leaving him with an adopted 5 month old baby girl. A deep connection is felt between Jared and Elise and they support each other over their losses. When Elise becomes suspicious she goes online to inquire of others losing a baby at birth and stumbles into an investigation of human trafficking and black marketing of babies. On an internet chat room "MysteryMom" responds, deeply involved in a case of uncovering the black market and agrees to help Elise. Getting too close to the truth, an attempt is made on Elise's life and prompts her to accept Jared's offer of protection and they give in to earth shaking sex.

Much heartache and thought was portrayed in this short story of the grief and loss of an infant. Putting this story down is not an option until the last page has been read. It will strike the heart of a mother and requires a handful of tissues!
