Phenomenal, stunning, hold your seat kind of mystery and an
all-star cast! If this had been a movie, that would have
been my review. Heather Graham has written a stunning
slasher book for the horror lover in us all! Starting out
like a scene from Gothica, and twisting into something from
Amityville, this book was exciting and captivating from
page one. Set in Salem, THE EVIL INSIDE was smashingly
real, the twists and turns kept me guessing, and I have to
admit I never did figure out who had done it until it was
written.
Sam Hall was comfortable with his life, things were pretty
good. As a high class defense attorney, Sam has made more
money than he is probably worth, plenty to keep up on the
family home in Salem while he explored the world trying to
figure out just want to do with it. Coming home to
determine the house's fate was supposed to be an easy
relaxing time. Driving down the road toward home and
finding a naked kid covered in blood was not in the script,
but that is exactly what Sam found. The boy, Malachi Smith
according to the local police, had just murdered his family
in a most horrendous way. Tied to two other deaths in the
area things were looking pretty cut and dry for Malachi
and nothing that Sam needed to dwell on...right?
Enter and beautiful red-head and her uncle. The red-head,
Jenna Duffy, a member of a paranormal branch of the FBI,
was known for her talent with talking to ghosts and
postcognition. Growing up around Salem, Jenna knew the
Lexington House carried a terrible past. It was highly
probable that someone had played upon the stories of old
and axe murdered their way through the town in a fit of
rage or revenge. The idea that a boy so firm in his beliefs
had murdered six people just didn't sit right with Jenna.
The only way she can help her uncle clear Malachi is to
work with Sam Hall. But first she will have to convince him
to take the case. From there it was just a matter of
talking to the right people, both living and dead, until
the true murderer could be caught. Shut and close...however,
this time it was not going to be that easy. Chasing one
lead to another and coming up with dead ends on all sides,
Jenna and Sam don't know where to turn next. Can they join
all their forces, talents, and resources to catch the
killer before the killer catches them?
Ms. Graham's use of history throughout this
book and the way that she was able to blend all the
religions into one small town was amazing. I felt that I
had been transported across America into a Salem where I
have never been. I loved that Graham was able to represent
so many different religious cultures and still keep them
feeling real. Graham was able to give Salem that small town
feel, where everybody knows everybody and their business.
The secrets that were to be kept hidden in this small town
are all too real and believable. A fabulous read!
For as long as it has
stood overlooking New England's jagged coastline, Lexington
House has been the witness to madness… and murder. But in
recent years the inexplicable malice that once tormented so
many has lain as silent as its victims. Until now…
A
member of the nation\\\'s foremost paranormal forensic team,
Jenna Duffy has made a career out of investigating the
inexplicable. Yet nothing could prepare her for the string
of slayings once again plaguing Lexington House—or for the
chief suspect, a boy barely old enough to drive, much less
kill.
With the young man\\\'s life on the line, Jenna
must team up with attorney Samuel Hall to pinpoint who—or
what—is taking the lives of those who get too close to the
past. But everything they learn brings them closer to the
