There is always something exciting going on in Darling, Alabama. Even though the residents are still reeling from the stock market crash and a record drought that has so adversely affected the cotton crop, Darling is the kind of small town where everyone helps each other and soon or later, everybody knows everybody's business.
When Miss Harmer, a noted town recluse, has a niece and her friend move in with her, and Verna Tidwell recognizes the niece, Nona Jamison as one of the famous "Naughty and Nice Sisters" of "Ziegfeld Frolic" fame - well, it certainly has the town buzzing.
Small town Darling just isn't ready for a couple of scantily dressed dancers from New York City, but wouldn't they make a lively addition to the town's talent show! So naturally, the Dahlia's start snooping around to see what they can find out about the newest residents and soon learn that Nona has made a hasty exit from Chicago, where she had been good friends with Al Capone and now that friendship may just have her in the gun sights of one of Al's gang.
Meanwhile, Lizzy Lacy has her hands full when her mother announces that she has lost her home to foreclosure and she will be moving in with Lizzy in her cute little house. Happy with her new-found independence, Lizzy sets right to work to find a way to keep her momma happy and her peaceful home just that -- peaceful.
In THE DARLING DAHLIAS AND THE NAKED LADIES, author Susan Wittig Albert once again brings an enchanting, but lively cozy mystery that will thrill her legion of fans. Albert has definitely done her research on small town life in Alabama in the 1930s and its fun to find the references to long-ago traditions that are gone today. She also includes a collection of delicious recipes from that era as well as household tips that can still be counted on today. This is the second book in the "Darling Dahlias" series, and I hope Albert has plenty more lined up for future enjoyment
