Contemporary Women's Fiction

Life is not good at 1105 YAKIMA STREET. Rachel Peyton is pregnant and her stepdaughter, Jolene, is making living here very difficult. Jolene and Rachel were friends for years before Rachel married Jolene's dad, Bruce Peyton. Since their marriage last Christmas, 13-year-old Jolene has gone out of her way to be as rude and disrespectful as possible. And Bruce is just sitting on the sidelines, watching it all happen. For her own mental and physical well-being and the well-being of her unborn child, Rachel decides to leave. Bruce thinks Rachel will just be gone for a night or two, but when days turn into weeks, he becomes concerned. He cannot contact Rachel because she has blocked his phone numbers. No one else has heard from her either, not even her best friend, Teri Polgar. When Bruce shows up at the salon where Rachel works, a heated argument breaks out and Rachel's boss threatens to call security. Bruce agrees to seek counseling, but Jolene refuses to go. Gradually, Rachel begins to call and talk to Bruce and even agrees to meet him for dinner a time or two. He starts to understand where he went wrong with Jolene and what he has to do to right the ship. But until Jolene comes around, Rachel refuses to return to their home. Can the damage be repaired, or will Rachel leave the area for good? It's always good to visit with old friends in Cedar Cove and catch up on what's going on in their lives. In this installment of Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series, we also learn that Charlotte Rhodes is having more trouble remembering things, and Ben, her husband, is slipping as well. Will they have to be moved to an assisted living facility? Grace and Cliff Harding have been given a four- week-old puppy to bottle feed until Beth Morehouse can find a home for it. Grace is determined not to become attached. Will Beth find the puppy a home before that happens? And Gloria Ashton is struggling with the fact that she did not tell Chad Timmons about his baby that she is carrying. Where will that story lead? 1105 YAKIMA STREET is another delightful Cedar Cove tale that will warm your heart. All of the characters in these stories have become like old friends. They experience issues and everyday struggles just like we all do. Debbie Macomber is a master at incorporating social issues and marriage and family complications into her writing. Don't miss this 11th and next-to-last book in this series!

SUMMARY

1105 Yakima Street, Cedar Cove, Washington Dear Listener, You’ve probably heard that my wife has left me. Rachel’s pregnant, and she says that she can’t handle the stress in our household anymore. My thirteen-year-old daughter, Jolene, is jealous of her. Maybe it’s my fault. As a widower I spoiled her – Jolene was reading over my shoulder just now and says that’s not true. She claims Rachel ruined everything. But that’s not true. The real question is: How can I get my wife back? I don’t even know where she is. She’s not with Teri Polgar or any of her other friends from the salon. The other question is…when will Jolene grow up and stop acting like such a brat? Of course, I’m not the only one in town with problems. Linc Wyse’s father- in-law is trying to destroy his business. And you know Charlotte Rhodes? Seems she’s becoming forgetful, and the family’s worried about her and Ben. Lots of other stuff going on – but Rachel is better at keeping up with it than I am. If you have any idea where my wife is, please give me a call. Please.

Re: Another heartwarming Cedar Cove tale by a master storyteller.

The Cedar Cove series from Macomber was and is in my opinion the grandparent of small town series. No one who writes continuing series set in small towns does it quite the way that Debbie Macomber does.

1105 Yakima Street is no exception to the long established pattern of the Cedar Cove Series. You get one complete story about a family, but also get to revisit other residents and catch up on their lives, without their issues clouding the main character's story.

I can only imagine how hard it is to write a story and have such a vast variety of characters to keep up with, and have totally enjoyed visiting Cedar Cove over the years. As I turned the last page of 1105 Yakima Street it was with mixed emotions as I was totally satisfied with the conclusion of Rachel and Bruce's story, but knew that with the publishing of 1225 Christmas Tree Lane a long running favorite series would be ending.
