Rene LeDeux can't escape the big city life and all the aggravation of his ex-job as an environmental lobbyist, even when he's hiding out at the cabin he's building in the Louisiana bayou. Nope, his determined environmental activist friends kidnap a TV personality and show up at the cabin, planning to force the woman to tell the story of how the Louisiana coastline is being ripped away.
Unfortunately, the woman they kidnap is an old, um, acquaintance (fighting friend?), Valerie "Ice" Breaux. The two have known each other since high school and it's never been a pleasant relationship. Now, she's really, really unhappy about being kidnapped and taken to the bayou to a cabin that isn't even near finished during one of the hottest Louisiana summers on record.
But Val finds herself listening to the story they're telling, add in a healthy dissatisfaction with her current boss, and she's ready to make a stab at a serious environmental piece. But to sell the story, she knows it will need something "sexy" for network news and that's got to be Rene. There's no hotter, sexier Cajun around. As the two work this story together and realize there's a large group of business people who don't want it to ever hit TV, their years of fighting each other are turning into something that's quite the opposite of fighting.
I'm surprised Ms. Hill was able to get this book to her publisher without the pages burning up. Rene. Oh, Rene. Lots of deep sighs and there really are no words for this Cajun hunk. Val holds her own and their spicy sex life makes for great reading. Of course, the romance aside, there's a great grandmother character in this book -- Tante Lulu -- who will make you laugh out loud. A must read! It's just too fun and steamy to miss!
