Romance Historical

Outfoxed! And by what? A waif of a girl! Jamie was furious that he, one of King John's smartest and strongest knights, had been outmaneuvered by the slight dark-haired beauty. Vowing to kill her when he caught up to her, his steel-trap mind wondered why she was chasing the same quarry as he had been sent to capture.

Riding with Rys, his ever present and long time friend, he quickly overturns the tables on Eva and ropes her to him so she could not escape. With ten years on the run with young Roger, Eva was talented in many ways and ever vigilant for an opportunity to slip away again from this strong man and the growing attraction she begins to feel for him.

With civil war erupting around them and the threat of a new and powerful enemy tracking them down, Eva is rethinking her plan. Entering into an uneasy entente with the tall and dark-haired Jamie Lost, they focus their energies on moving through rebel held lands to seek the captured Father Peter. Could they find him in time to save the country? As they each shift through wisps of stray talk and plotting tales of ambitions both old and new, Eva and Jamie begin to unravel the closely guarded secrets of the other. Now, forced into making a choice, where will their allegiance lie?

Renowned for her talented writing and careful research, Kris Kennedy sets this amazing story in 1215 and quickly brings alive in vivid detail the tensions of this pre- Magna Carta time of civil war and shifting allegiances. Kennedy has written a passionate and enthralling romance between Jamie, a strong-willed knight on a mission, and Eva, a woman of mystery who is steadfast in her persistent and protective care for those she loves. This is a delicious and satisfying heartfelt read that I just could not put down. A magnificent medieval romance not to be missed!

SUMMARY

England, 1215, the eve of Magna Carta

Jamie Lost is the king's most renowned commander, an audacious knight ordered to kidnap an exiled priest before rebel forces close in. The mission is simple--until he comes up against a mysterious woman on a mission, a thief who will first steal his quarry and then his heart.

Eva is also seeking Father Peter, but she intends to protect him from a secret that endangers his life, even if it costs her own. She is well aware danger lies everywhere, especially in the knight showing too much interest in her activities. But deep inside, Eva knows the danger lies not in Jamie, but inside her, in the desire he awakens in her body and heart.

When a mysterious band of armed mercenaries upends both their plans and abducts the priest, Jamie and Eva form an uneasy alliance. As civil war unfolds around them, they embark on an epic journey that betrays the truth about their identities, their unexpected loyalties, and the dangerous attraction that could seal their fates forever.
