Autumn Haven knew there was a possibility she would see her ex-husband, Sam LeClaire, the moment she agreed to plan Hockey legend Ty Savage's wedding since Sam was Ty's ex-teammate. Weddings are a time of happiness and joy, so Autumn is determined to put business first and keep the hate, hurt, and disappointment off her face for when the inevitable happens. Autumn fell in love with Sam one fateful weekend in Las Vegas 6 years ago, the same weekend she gave into longing for a chance at forever, the same weekend Sam married her then left her pregnant and alone. Autumn and Sam's six year old son, Conner, receives the same treatment leaving Conner hurt and disappointed when Sam skips out on weekends he is supposed to spend with Conner. Unfortunately, Autumn is unable to refuse Sam's help looking after Conner when the babysitter becomes sick during the wedding. Autumn attempts to put aside their differences and be thankful Sam is willing to do at least that much.
Sam LeCaire loves Hockey just as much as he loves beautiful women and the lure of the beautiful redhead in Las Vegas six years ago is no exception. Sam is not sure exactly how the decision to marry Autumn came about, Sam only knows it was a colossal mistake. Memories of their time together slam into his head as he watches Autumn keep Ty Savage's wedding and reception running smoothly. Sam jumps at the chance to spend time with their son when Autumn's brother is unable to watch him any longer during the reception. Sam always steels himself against the hate and pain he sees in Autumn eyes every time they are forced to come face to face regarding their son. Sam may regret his actions in Las Vegas but he will never regret the son they have together. Sam realizes that he doesn't want to be like his own father, a disappointment, and decides to put aside his indifference to his son and attempt to make amends both with Conner and Autumn.
As always, Rachel Gibson brings characters to life with deep emotions and turmoil to wade through before happiness can be found. Sam and Autumn's story is breath-taking and beautiful. A complete joy to read.
