Jack McKibbon researched and developd drills and water
pumps that do one important job, finding water in extreme
and dangerous conditions. Meanwhile his wife Mia was doing
her best to keep their ranch alive and well. His job had
him constantly traveling mostly overseas -- not the most
ideal career for a newly married man and certainly reason
enough for a five year marriage to face a troubled and
truly doubtful future. If he were being truthful with
himself, he would acknowledge that the lifestyle wasn't
suiting him anymore but be couldn't see any way out.
Faced with attending a fundraiser with and for her absentee
husband, Mia was placed in a precarious position and found
herself once again helping him out of a difficult situation.
He needed to publicly show off a wife he had hardly even
seen over the last five years to stave off the rumors of an
affair with the university dean's wife. As far as work was
concerned, he was a confident person but his personal life
was an entirely different matter. But each time Jack called
Mia came full of hope for a real relationship. She was so
much in love but she had to admit that Jack had never given
her any reason to believe it was mutual. Sure they were
lifelong friends but as time went on Mia knew she wanted and
needed more. Mia stayed in the background allowing Jack to
follow his dream of getting water to the world. It was hard
to convince someone whose only vision of a family was filled
with abuse not love, who had constructed an impervious shell
around his heart. Jack never considered that he might be in
love with Mia, his best friend, but he was doing his best to
disregard any physical attraction between them seeing that
as being disrespectful. Their relationship was complicated.
But facing life without Mia, well Jack didn't know if that
was possible and yet now that's what she was asking for -- a
divorce. She needed to move ahead even if it was without
Jack. Living the life of an Indiana Jones with
adventure after adventure, Jack now faced his biggest
challenge... to return home after a devastating accident to
recover from his physical, mental and emotional wounds and
face down his personal demons. And hopefully learn to live
and maybe find real love and a family. Follow a new dream.
As a big fan of all the Indiana Jones movies, and Harrison
Ford, this story was right up my alley. Her characters had
great strength and deep compassion -- a truly
enjoyable mix. Of course you are rooting for Jack and Mia
to get their acts together. But just as life keeps you on
your toes, their story showed that problems are rarely easy
to solve and problems of the heart are probably the most
difficult to repair. Enjoy.
Jack McKibbon knows the score when he offers to marry his
best friend Mia Alatore. He's fixing a bad situation for
her—that's all—they aren't making a real life together. She
wants to stay on the ranch and he's got his studies and
inventions elsewhere. Still, this arrangement is a good
deal for both of them.
Until that one night…
A sexy interlude with Mia makes Jack rethink their
relationship…and their future. But all his plans grind to a
halt when she asks for a divorce. Once upon a time, Jack
might have agreed. But now that he knows the chemistry they
share, he's not giving up a second chance to be with his
wife.
