Dr. Kelly Chapman, a psychiatrist involved in numerous
criminal cases and on the national expert witness registry,
is an avid inline skater. Presently living with her is 14-
year-old Maggie Winston, daughter of a recent patient now
incarcerated. Maggie has experienced horrifying trauma and
is keeping many secrets. Kelly's effort to help the teen is
cut short when Kelly comes up missing from one of her skate
outings near her home in Ohio during the freezing cold of
December.
Because of Kelly's connection to the law, Clay Thatcher, a
missing persons' investigator, is called in within hours.
Being the best there is, Clay and his team work around the
clock to locate Kelly. Every lead they uncover could easily
refer to most of Kelly's patients wanting to seek revenge.
With Kelly's picture stuck on his dash, Clay forms a
personal connection that goes beyond his job. While Kelly's
life is slipping away, drug running, murder and a pedophile
keep Clay and his crew vacillating from one lead to
another. Clay's persistence finally pays off, but creates a
secret of his own.
THE FOURTH VICTIM is a chilling thriller full of
psychological suspense. Maggie is a young, confused girl
who has fallen prey to negative influence. Kelly is the
woman who wishes to mother Maggie and protect her innocence
from evil. Not all is what it seems with this story, and
there is a surprise ending awaiting you. Tara Taylor
Quinn is an exceptional author who knows how to make
the blood run cold while revealing the heartbreaking terror
of a child.
Missing and presumed alive
Kelly Chapman—psychologist and expert witness. She’s on call
24 hours a day. She’s unattached, but 100% committed to her
clients, her foster child, her friends.
Clay Thatcher. FBI special agent: Missing Persons. A loner.
Like Kelly, he’s always on call. He, too, is unattached but
100% committed to his job—and only his job.
That’s why he’s in Chandler, Ohio. Kelly Chapman’s
disappeared. Is it because she testified against someone
who now wants revenge? Or is she the fourth victim of a
killer who’s responsible for three recent deaths?
Clay has to figure it out, and to do that, he delves into
her life, her personality, her work. Soon, Kelly becomes
more than just another case to him. She becomes a woman he
could love--if he finds her alive.
I thought The 4th Victim was a great wrap up to The Chapman Files. Yet, while it wrapped up several loose ends it also opened a whole new spectrum of potential story lines, and I'm hoping that Ms. Quinn will be exploring some of them in the future.
I for one am not quite yet ready to bid a fond farewell to Kelly and to Maggie who still has a lot of "baggage" to get through on her journey to adulthood. (Sandi Shilhanek 2:28pm December 28, 2010)
