Calvin Malone believes he finally has Faythe's clan where he
wants them. When her clan goes to Montana for the council
vote, he charges Faythe, Mark, and Jace with treason. If he
can permanently remove Mark and Jace, Faythe
will end up declawed and the property of the tom he assigns
her to; giving her father's territory to one of Malone's own
stooges. Malone should know however, you never back a cat
into a corner unless you want to see its claws.
I have loved this series for its characters. The reader
could get a full sense of each one, whether good or bad.
When Faythe's family and clan are threatened, nothing will
get in the way of her protecting or avenging them. Nothing
includes getting physically beaten to the edge of life
itself, or allowing her own personal demon back into
the fold to protect those she loves. She has a sharp mind.
She knows to ask for assistance when she needs it, and the
best way to get it. Faythe's father was the epitome of the
strong leader, yet he was also a loving and proud father to
her. Her mother's heart had been broken throughout the
series, but this woman was no wimp. She would stand tall
and fight to the end. Mark could be a possessive animal at
times, but you always knew his heart. And of course, Jace,
who we got to watch grow from a sweet lovable boy to a very
definitive man ready to do anything to protect the ones he
loves. These are just a few of the intriguing characters,
there are so many more. You become involved with each one of
them, as should happen with any good story.
Whenever a series comes to a close, the reader approaches
the end with both anticipation for a solid closure and
anxiety for seeing those they loved to follow say goodbye.
Rachel Vincent closed out her werecat series nicely. My
heart ached for the decision that Faythe faced with the two
men she loved. I shed tears, and felt frustration and
relief. I experienced the whole gambit of emotions through
these final chapters. Whether you are a team Mark or team
Jace supporter, I believe you will feel the right outcome
happened for all involved. Rachel Vincent shows that the
strength of family, whether blood-tied or not, will always
prevail.
The unscrupulous new Council chair has charged Jace, Marc
and me with trespassing, kidnapping, murder and treason.
Yeah, we've been busy. But now it's time to take justice
into our own hands. We must avenge my brother's death and
carve out the rot at the heart of the Council.
It's not
going to be easy, and loss seems unavoidable, but I have
promised to protect my Pride, no matter what. With a target
on my back and Marc at my side, I'm heading for a final
showdown that can—that will—change everything forever. A
showdown I'm not sure I'm ready for.
