Chikoba was 14 when his family was killed. As one of the
young boys who survived, he was sold and wound up with the
Comanche who accepted him into their tribe in spite of his
lighter skin. But after his young, pregnant wife was
murdered, he left the tribe; his skin color a reminder of
who he was and all he had lost. His future was fated to be
with the whites. His challenge was to let go of his hatred
with the help of his spirit guide, the black wolf, and
re-enter the white world with his birth name, Jeremiah Baldwin.
Angel's world was that of riches and breeding. A place where
a woman was valued for her looks, not her usefulness or
resourcefulness. Angel's world is abruptly shaken when the
foundation of her father's right to his land and homestead
is questioned by Jeremiah. As Angel's and Jeremiah's worlds
collide, they know they belong together but the realization
of one's goals means devastation for the other. When all
Angel believed gets exposed as lies, she has to face some
harsh facts about who she is. The more she learns, the more
danger she faces. Those who would wish her harm are the same
people she thought she could trust. Both Angel and Jeremiah
have nightmares. He is trying hard to
get beyond his, she is now facing hers. When the nightmares
end, will they finally be able to start moving closer to
realizing their dreams?
DESTINY'S CAPTIVE is well written with a wondrous blend of
pioneer life and Indian spirituality that is sure to please
even the most pragmatic reader. Kate Lyon's description of
the beautiful Texas hill country gives us insight into the
violent struggles over land. Her characters have great
strength, and remain true and believable. There are no
superheroes in DESTINY'S CAPTIVE, just people doing what's
necessary to survive. Not always a pretty picture, but a joy
to read.
Angelina Sanchez didn’t hold much stock in men. The ones
who weren’t slimy fortune hunters weren’t interested in a
young lady who would rather spend time with her horses
than flirt. But when she saw a handsome stranger in town,
there was an instant connection, a spark of familiarity
like nothing she’d ever felt. And no matter how fiercely
her father warned her away from Jeremiah Baldwin, nothing
could have kept her from his side.
A BROKEN WARRIOR
When her father had him beaten and left for dead, Angel’s
soft hands and sweet voice coaxed Jeremiah to stay, to
fight. In her arms, it seemed he’d finally found a place
to belong. But how could he protect her when it was her
father who’d led the raid that had slaughtered his family?
His spirit guides had told him he would feel true joy only
if he made peace with his greatest sorrow. But unless he
could find a way to win Angelina’s heart without forsaking
his family, he would remain…
