The Carpathians are still at war. Their enemies have gotten
stronger and far more organized by adding
jaguar-men into the mix. DARK PERIL focuses on the
relationship between two warriors, Dominic and Solange, and
their willingness to die for their cause. Both want revenge
for their people, and both have lost any hope of finding love.
Dominic, ancient Carpathian from the Dragonseeker line, is
prepared to die. He has ingested lethal parasites in order
to have a chance at infiltrating the enemy lair. His main
purpose? To retrieve information, even at the cost of his
life. His death would be a noble sacrifice for someone with
no real lifemate. Solange, Jaguar-Woman and last of the
royal line, wants familial revenge. Her father has killed
off most of his people and has a fetish for murdering and
torturing his women, and now he needs to breed. In order to
have a future, she needs him stopped. I cried reading the
first chapter because Solange's past was so horrifying. It
definitely sucked me in. Solange and Dominic find solace in
their dreams of an imaginary lover and are shocked when they
find each other to be real.
Dominic must get information from the enemy camp while
finding a way to stay alive. Solange must face her fears
about men and find a way to kill her father. It's amazing to
watch the heroine transition from an independent warrior and
vulnerable woman to a confident seductress. If you dislike
murder/torture or can't read about men objectifying women
then this may not be the book for you. You will cry, you
will laugh,
and you will love these two characters. Love is
attainable, even to those who believe it is a lost cause.
