"What scares you?" That's the question the Watchman asks each of his victims before he uses their greatest fear to torment them, and ultimately, to kill them.
FBI Special Agents Monica Davenport and Luke Dante are assigned to a remote little town in Mississippi to investigate a possible serial killer. It's Luke's first assignment since he joined the SSD (Special Services Division). He first met Monica when they were at the Academy in Quantico six years before. They have a past, a romantic/sexual attraction, and Monica begs her boss not to bring Luke into the department. Now she finds herself teamed up with him to solve these heinous crimes.
The two killings that have occurred are very different, and Monica is not sure they are looking for a serial killer. But when a third murder occurs, she begins to see the pattern. The killer is getting pleasure out of using the thing that his victim fears the most to make them suffer. Then when they quit begging him to stop, he lets them die.
When Monica receives a note from the killer, and then a phone call, she realizes she is his next target. As they seek out clues to his identity, both Monica and Luke discover they must face secrets and fears from their own past if they are to have a future. Can they do it and get their guy?
Cynthia Eden has mixed just the right amount of suspense and romance in this novel to keep you glued to the pages. It's very fast-paced and packed with anticipation of the killer's next move, and steamy motel scenes for Monica and Luke. Don't miss this first book of her new Deadly series!
