Several years ago I discovered Kristi Gold with her book
Fall From Graceand from that point forward I was
hooked on Ms.
Gold and her books. When I sit down with one of her stories
I know that I'm guaranteed a good read, and one that I will
not want to put down.
Her latest title, HIS BEST MISTAKE is no exception. Kevin
O'Brien never fancied himself a settle down sort of guy
until he met Leah Cordero. Then he truly wanted nothing
more than to marry and raise a family much like his own loud
boisterous family. However, fate steps in, and Kevin is
diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease, and should he
survive it could leave him infertile and he decides that is
more than he should ask Leah to deal with, so he breaks up
with her.
Leah is hurt and angry at the way Kevin breaks up with her,
and really wants nothing to do with him again. Yet, again
fate steps in, and Leah now has a young daughter who was
fathered by Kevin and she battles with telling him about
Carly's parentage.
Leah and Kevin both have issues they must work through in
order to be good strong parents for Carly. Kevin's family
figures prominently in the story, but not so much so as to
overtake the story...but enough so that readers feel the
family's influences on Kevin and Leah.
I really enjoyed HIS BEST MISTAKE even if at times I wanted
to strangle both Kevin and Leah and yell just get over it
already and make up. However on reflection those moments
when I wanted to yell I realized are the emotional moments
that make up a life and help to make a one dimensional
character jump off the page and make me think he's the
person living next door to me. It takes a talent such as
Ms. Gold has to do that.
If you're a fan of category romance and the SuperRomance
line in particular then HIS BEST MISTAKE is a book not to miss.
Learning he might be incapable of fathering children turns
hotshot sportswriter Kevin O'Brien's world upside down. The
news is bad enough, but the impact on his relationship with
Dr. Leah Cordero…? Well, it's best if he exits right now
before he really wants what he can't have.
So
imagine his surprise months later when Leah appears on his
doorstep with a baby—his baby. Once his shock
subsides, Kevin insists on being a part of his daughter's
life. The best way to do that? Move her and Leah into his
house. It doesn't take long for him to fall head over heels
for his little girl and remember everything he loves about
her mother. Now he has to show Leah they can become a
forever family.
