Women's Fiction | Romance Contemporary

Coco Barrington leads a simple life following the death of her boyfriend, Ian. Coco's sister, Jane, is one of Hollywood's top film producers living with her lover Liz. Her widowed mother Florence is a successful author with a secret of her own. A dropout from college and considered the black sheep and underachiever of the family, Coco is constantly demeaned by her sibling and mother. She chooses to turn her back on her affluent upbringing to live a quiet life in her "shack" at the beach in Bolinas and operate a small business of dog-walking for the rich and elite.

House-sitting for Jane at her San Francisco home produces an unexpected visitor, British actor Leslie Baxter. Their totally unexpected love affair is surprising to both Coco and Leslie. Threatened at every turn by the paparazzi, Coco cannot visualize a life of being pursued and in danger the rest of her life. Desperately wanting to spend the rest of her life with Leslie, Coco now has to make the most important decision of her life.

Coco is such a beautiful and warm soul who always sets aside her own concerns. I fell in love with her instantly. It's wonderful to finally see her come into her own and become an independent woman. The love she and Leslie feel for one another is real and extremely rare, defying all Hollywood romances. I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

SUMMARY

Danielle Steel celebrates families of every stripe in her compelling new novelโ€”a tale of three very different couples who struggle and survive, love, laugh, and learn to take lifeโ€ฆ

Coco Barrington was born into a legendary Hollywood family, her last name loaded with expectations. Her mother is a mega-bestselling author who writes under the name of Florence Flowers โ€” and her sister, Jane, is one of Hollywoodโ€™s top producers. Theyโ€™re not your typical family by any means.โ€ฆJane has lived with her partner, Liz, for ten years, in a solid, loving relationship. Florence, widowed but still radiant, has just begun a secret romance with a man twenty-four years her junior. And Coco, a law school dropout and the family black sheep, works as a dog walker, having fled life in the spotlight for the artsy northern California beach town of Bolinas.

But when Coco reluctantly agrees to dog-sit in Janeโ€™s luxurious home, she soon discovers how much things can change in just a matter of days.โ€ฆIt turns out Janeโ€™s house comes complete with an unexpected houseguest: Leslie Baxter, a dashing but down-to-earth British actor whoโ€™s fleeing a psycho ex-girlfriend. Their worlds couldnโ€™t be more different. The attraction couldnโ€™t be more immediate.

Suddenly Coco is seeing things differently: Leslie is not just a celebrity, heโ€™s a single dad to an adorable six-year-old girl. Her mother is not just a self-centered walking advertisement for great cosmetic surgery, sheโ€™s a woman in love, with vulnerability and new insight. And Jane and Liz are about to take the bravest plunge of allโ€”into parenthood. As Coco contemplates a future with one of Hollywoodโ€™s hottest stars, as her mother and sister settle into their lives, old wounds are healed and new familes are formedโ€”some traditional, some not so traditional, but all bonded by love.

With wit and intelligence, Danielle Steelโ€™s new novel explores love in all its guises, taking us into the lives of three unusual but wonderfully real couples. Funny, sexy, and wise, One Day at a Time is at once moving, thought provoking, and utterly impossible to put down.
