Danae Livingston spends most of her time dancing with a
well-known ballet troupe, but every summer she travels to
the GriffinCon, the world's largest science-fiction
convention, to experience her love of Torhtremer, an
exciting literary otherworld. This year promises to be more
exciting and hopefully less tragic, since the original
author of the Torhtremer saga died during one of them. Her
best friend (and costume designer extraordinaire) promises
to have the best designs this year and Danae has promised
to strut her stuff around the convention to help advertise
for future buyers. As Danae enters one of the gatherings,
she stops in her tracks when she sees her favorite
character, Alekhsiy, in the flesh and in full armor.
Alekhsiy Alekseiovich has made the journey through the void
to Earth to locate the catalyst and sorcerer who can bring
his world of Torhtremer to war and destroy both of them. As
a General and brother to the king, this task falls to
Alekhsiy, so he finds himself among humans at the
GriffinCon. The uniforms are close, but are nothing
compared to the spell-protected armor he is currently
wearing to shield him during the battles he fights here on
earth. As Alekhsiy takes in his surroundings, the beautiful
dancer who's saved his life on numerous occasions is
gliding towards him whispering his name and calling out to
him as no other woman has.
I truly love Diane Whiteside, but this story took a
few chapters to take hold. However, once I wrapped my brain
around the plot, I enjoyed the way the two worlds
paralleled each other. A very interesting read!
Quiet Danae Livingston has two lives. One is her lifeline:
a career as a hardworking member of a top New York dance
troupe. The other is her secret passion: fan-fic author,
writing scorching tales about the dazzling realm of
Torhtremer and Alekhsiy, her favorite hero in that
haunting universe. The only time her worlds merge is at
GriffinCon, the summer’s largest science fiction
convention.
There an obsessed fan prowls the crowded convention halls,
hunting for the one author who can rewrite Torhtremer’s
saga to his own twisted liking and have the legendary
villain win everything.
But Alekhsiy and Torhtremer are far more real than even
she or its greatest devotees could ever imagine. Knowing
that danger threatens his home once again from Earth,
Alekhsiy comes to GriffinCon to stop it using any means
necessary, even if that means destroying the unknown
dancer who’s saved his life so many times…
Soon fantasy and reality will merge, swords and sorcery
will cross, and a sensual world of one woman’s vivid
imagination will be the most impossible one of all to
resist—or escape.
