In the cozy mystery world, there are all types of amateur
sleuths -- bakers, tea shop owners, knitters, the list goes
on and on. But I think that Georgiana Neverall, from
Christy Evan's SINK TRAP, may be the first lady plumber
who solves mysteries that I have run across.
Georgiana Neverall used to be a bigshot CEO of a software
security company. But she left that fast-paced life behind
to return to her hometown and train to be a plumber's
apprentice, an occupation she finds she is pretty good at.
When on a warehouse job with Barry, her boss, Georgiana
unplugs a clog of big trouble. She discovers a brooch
belonging to Martha Tepper, the retired librarian who owned
the warehouse, and who supposedly had moved to Arizona.
Finding the brooch puzzles Georgie, because she has never
seen it off Miss Tepper.
Concerned about the older woman, Georgie begins to ask a
few questions around town, but her boyfriend, City
Council member Wade Montgomery, and the police dismiss her
concerns. It's up to Georgie, her best friend Sue and her
boss's wife, Paula, to try and figure out just what
happened to Miss Tepper. Their list of suspects soon
includes Georgie's mother's new boyfriend and Martha's
former housekeeper, and her accountant—who just happens to
be Wade.
Christy Evans delivers a fast-paced mystery admirable
finesse with the debut novel of her new mystery series. She
sprinkles plumbing tips throughout the story, and her
moments of humor taken from Georgie's interaction with her
pushy mother, her busy-body friends and her adorable
Airedales, Daisy and Buddha adds just the right touch to
this charming story. While her main character, Georgiana,
was a little hard to warm up to at first, I found myself
cheering her on at the end of the tale.
Former corporate drone Georgiana Neverall loves her new
occupation as a plumber's apprentice, but is a bit surprised
when she finds the favorite brooch of Martha Tepper, the
town's former librarian, clogging a sink. Georgiana has a
sinking feeling that Martha may have been retired
permanently-and suddenly it's up to a plumber's apprentice
to flush out a killer.
