On the outside, Aden Stone looked to be your typical
troubled teen. Withdrawn with aggressive tendencies, Aden
seemed to be the rebellious loner with no friends; but he
was never alone. I mean really, how can you make friends
when you have to tell them that you have four other souls
with special gifts trapped inside of you? And these
special gifts often inadvertently lead him into the trouble
he usually found himself in; whether it be disappearing
when one of them decides to time travel, when one
accidentally raises the dead when walking near a grave,
when one accidentally possesses another human, when one
shows him the future, or just seeming to talk to himself,
when in fact he is talking to his companions. These souls
are always there, always constant, until Mary Ann Gray.
Mary Ann is Aden's opposite. She has friends, never in
trouble and always tries to make everyone around her
happy. Aside from losing her mother at a young age, Mary
Ann lived a normal, healthy life; at least she thought she
was normal until she meets Aden.
Where Aden attracts all things paranormal, Mary Ann repels
it. When Aden is in her presence, the voices inside of him
go away. She is his peace and the two build a bond of
friendship.
The two soon encounter a werewolf shape-shifter who becomes
protective if not possessive of Mary Ann, and a vampire
princess that Aden cannot resist. Thus begins two separate
romances that should not be, four tenuous friendships
building, and a journey into a dark world of mystery to
find the answers to Aden's past as he tries to find a way
to release the souls within him.
INTERTWINED is the new young adult series from Gena
Showalter. She explores the relationship between the four
teens and Aden's captured souls, finding surprising answers
to a mystery that will carry on into future books. This is
an intriguing story and a clever mystery that I found
enjoyable. I am looking forward to the next one, to see
where their journey takes them.
Most sixteen-year-olds have friends. Aden Stone has four
human souls living inside him:
One can time-travel.
One can raise the dead.
One can tell the future.
And one can possess another human.
With no other family and a life spent in and out of
institutions, Aden and the souls have become friends. But
now, they’re causing him all kinds of trouble.
Like, he’ll blink and suddenly he’s a younger Aden, reliving
the past. One wrong move, and he’ll change the future. Or,
he’ll walk past a total stranger and know how and when she’s
going to die.
He’s so over it. All he wants is peace.
And then he meets a girl who quiets the voices. Well, for
as long as he’s with her. Why? Mary Ann Gray is his total
opposite. He’s a loner; she has friends. He doesn’t care
what anyone thinks; she tries to make everyone happy. And
while he attracts the paranormal, she repels it. For her
sake, he should stay away. But it’s too late. . .
Somehow, they share an inexplicable bond of friendship. A
bond about to be tested by a werewolf shape-shifter who
wants Mary Ann for his own and a vampire princess Aden can’t
resist. Two romances, both forbidden. . . doomed.
Still, the four will enter a dark underworld of intrigue and
danger. . . but not everyone will come out alive. . .
