Romance Historical

A top agent with Her Majesty's Secret Service, Alex Hepburn not only was very sharp with his investigative skills, but he also had a secret weapon. While not as gifted a Seer as his grandmother, he still had some psychic powers to see visions that would help him. So when someone took a shot at him during an attempted assassination plot against Queen Victoria at Balmoral Castle, he immediately jumped into action. Finding a woman's blonde wig at the crime scene, he pulled the wig to his face and inhaled. Immediately, he saw a vision of a young lad at a stream. He knew that the lad had helped the woman and went off with his brother, Gavin, in search of young villain. For her part, young Mahri Scot, a former courier for an underground Scottish faction, was glad she could still wiggle into a lad's outfit as she had when she was younger. Captured by Alex, she was soon able to reverse positions, thanks to Dugald, her trusted childhood protector. Yet, when she found out Alex was being falsely charged, she felt compelled to attempt to rescue him. While losing his heart to Mahri, Alex was forever the agent and vowed he only kept her close as a needed alibi. Could he ever trust her? Was Mahri a conspirator for the same people who had betrayed him before? Set in 1885, Elizabeth Thornton has crafted a suspenseful romance with just the right touch of the paranormal while weaving in an intriguing plot of murders, double crossings, treacherous weather and unexpected loyalty. THE SCOT AND I is an exciting read with its unexpected twists of fate, intuitive insights and well-drawn and strong characters. While an intriguing read on its own, fans will be pleased to know THE SCOT AND I is the second book in Thornton's "Seer of Grampian" Series with a third book, ROMANCING MISS CAMERON coming in early 2010. Can't wait for that! Meanwhile, if you haven't read it already, check out THE RUNAWAY MCBRIDE, the first in this series and others by this very gifted historical romance author.

SUMMARY

After a mysterious woman foils an assassination attempt on the Queen’s life, Alex Hepburn, a psychic agent for Her Majesty’s Secret Service, recognizes the bold beauty as a conspirator he’s been hunting for years. An agent for Her Majesty's Secret Service, Alex Hepburn is a reluctant psychic whose powers sometimes come into play during his missions - such as preventing the attempt to assassinate Queen Victoria at Balmoral Castle, by a conspirator he's been hunting forever. But it is a mysterious young woman who foils the plot, then slips away . . . She is Mahri Scot, once a courier for the faction thatAlex has sworn to destroy. She can handle a gun or a knife as well as any man and, disguised as a boy, she becomes virtually invisible. She's never encountered a man she couldn't outsmart, outrun, or outmaneuver - until now. With Alex hot on her trail, she flees to the Scottish countryside. There she discovers that sometimes surrender can be the sweetest revenge - and the most dangerous.
