Coney Island (Cy) Bombay is working as a carney in the Midwest when he first meets Veronica Gale, a young woman doing research on her master's thesis about transient lifestyles. Little does Ronnie know that Cy has a PhD in philosophy and also "eliminates" bad people. Cy's family is in the generations-old business of assassinating evil people, beginning their training at age five.
Later, when Cy arrives in Mongolia to join in the Naadam Festival to train and compete in wrestling, he finds Ronnie is also there doing more research. This meeting eventually begins a surprising and hot affair between the two. Since Cy has been contracted to eliminate Arje Dekker, a Dutch mercenary also attending the festival, Ronnie's friendship with Arje makes it difficult for Cy to complete his assignment. Surmising that he is being stalked by Cy, Dekker renders him unconscious and kidnaps Ronnie. Taking the family jet, Cy pursues them. After a knock-down drag- out confrontation, Cy whisks Dekker off to the family's private island of Santa Merta, while Ronnie returns home.
Having gotten tired of the family business, Cy, along with his cousins, conspire against the elders, forcing them into retirement and taking up new private lives. Cy can't get Ronnie out of his blood, so he decides to come clean about his past with the hope she can reciprocate his love.
Leslie Langtry writes a fast and exciting story that's full of mystery and humor. Her writing is extremely clever and certainly keeps the reader's interest. Once you start this book, you won't be able to put it down until the last page is read. I couldn't wait to see what the next page would bring and what new and interesting characters she would conjure up. This is the first novel I have read by Ms. Langtry, but it will certainly not be the last! If you like lots of excitement, this is the book for you.
