Romance Historical

As the oldest of the Fenstraw children, Lady Emily Stapleford loved her warm and close-knit family and was quick to notice when things went wrong. Sensing trouble and, with a penchance for eavesdropping, Lady Emily found out her father was horribly in debt and to make it worse, that awful American, Logan Jennsen. was demanding money from him. Emily realizes that her family had an expectation that she could save them by making a rich marriage. To avoid that fate, Emily schemed and pondered a way where she could help financially, yet still be free to marry for love in the future. With a heavy heart, she realized she needed allies for her plan and decided to tell her follow members of the Ladies Literary Society of London as they were also her very best and closest of friends. They had been reading and discussing the novel, "The Gentleman Vampire's Kiss" which was all the rage. That erotic book was the epiphany for her plan. When Emily tells her friends of her father's bad investments, both personal and business, and of her plan, her bosom buddies, now all happily married ladies, attempt to tell her that marriage may not be so bad. Yet, despite their misgivings, they agreed to help her get her plan noticed. For while Lady Emily had been away with her family at their country home in Kent, she had used that time away to write a short story, "The Vampire's Lady's Kiss". Disappointed that she couldn't find a publisher for they felt no one would be interested in a vampire heroine. But with Emily's plan, a new publisher would want to latch unto her book and she would get the financial success she craved. But is Emily's plan as foolproof as she thought? Had she missed being aware of any dangers that could happen? Meanwhile, Logan could not get thoughts of the impetuous Emily out of his mind, despite all the negative things that had begun to happen to him. He certainly had no interest in those hothouse society ladies who would wilt at the first inconvenience. He even casually tossed off a fifty pound bet to a friend, secure in his feelings about the silly ladies of the Ton. Yet, why did Emily keep drifting in his mind and when he chanced upon her, he felt she certainly was up to something. Her mischievous eyes, those beautiful eyes, gave her away every time. He just had to find out what she was plotting. As the fourth and final book in the Mayhem at Mayfair series, Jacquie D'Alessandro has certainly served up the best to top off this very humourous and sensual suite of stories! TEMPTED AT MIDNIGHT is a lush and 'licious, sizzling, yet tender, tale of cold hearts warming to the other. Totally fascinating as a stand-alone read, it will prove even more of a crowning dessert for fans of D'Alessandro. The plotline is strong with tantalizing suspense and the character development throughout is realistic and rewarding. The slow budding of the relationship between the two protagonists, Emily and Logan, is especially poignant as they break through their stereotypes to really learn about the other. I am so in love with Logan for myself! This is one terrific romance you won't regret being tempted to read!

SUMMARY

A desperate beauty concocts a perfectly outrageous scheme for success—and not only attracts the attention of the Ladies Literary Society of London, but also the last man she’d ever expected to tempt. Lady Emily Stapleford never dreamed that the burden of saving her family from financial ruin would rest on her lovely, resourceful shoulders. Since she’s only willing to marry for love, and not money, Emily pens a story she hopes will bring her fortune—only to have it rejected by every major publisher. After all, what respectable reader would dare embrace a vampire heroine? Not to be dissuaded, Emily generates publicity by attracting attention with a vampire masquerade. Overnight London is abuzz with the sightings. With renewed interest in Emily’s book, she’s guaranteed success—if it wasn’t for the mysterious American, Logan Jennsen. He’s on to Emily’s duplicity and he has every intention of using it to his advantage. If only he wasn’t falling in love with this unabashedly creative hothouse flower. And if only he didn’t have a scandalous secret of his own—one that’s putting both their lives in danger
