Lara Boucher's entire life revolved around the fact that she's a cop in New York City. But when she's called to check out a noisy party complaint at the Plaza Hotel, her life takes an abrupt detour. She briefly meets Giacomo di Venezia (Jack) and nothing is the same after that. The other cops and ambulance personnel she called to the scene are all acting like zombies and no one remembers anything about why they are there. No one but her, that is. This gets her weird-o-meter running full-out.
Jack is blown away. Not only is the cop one sexy babe, but he can't control her mentally -- he is done for. Jack knows Lara is the woman for him; he just has to convince her. This is where being the son of the famous Casanova could come in handy. But Jack is a secret agent of sorts with a vampire agency that hunts rogue vampires who've gone too far, and that could be a stumbling block to their life together.
Lara's reality changes form when she learns about vampires. She and Jack are falling in love with each other when they begin investigating the disappearance of girls from local college campuses. When Lara is missing, Jack is sure she's been taken by the kidnapper. He's determined to have a life with Lara, but in order to do that, he has to find her before she's killed.
I really, really liked SECRET LIFE OF A VAMPIRE and can't wait until FORBIDDEN NIGHTS WITH A VAMPIRE comes out in May. Strong, contemporary cop; ultra masculine, yet besotted vampire who not only is a secret agent, but is the son of Casanova -- well, the combination is simply delicious. Add in the suspense of a vampire cult with delusions of grandeur and you have a story that keeps you turning the pages all the way through.
