As usual, when things were at a discord between the Prince
and Princess of Wales, all of London would be buzzing, but
now the Ton was really swarming with rumours and innuendo
as news was circulating that Princess Caroline was going to
publish private letters in a book to be called The Book of
Scandal.
News of the angry buzz in the royal hive had not reached
Nathan Grey, the Earl of Lindsey, as he half-hearted
continued to live up to his informal title as the Libertine
of Lindsey, nor did he care as he tried to blot out all the
events in his life since his wife, Evelyn had left him
after the death of his young son. So, when his good
friend, Grayson Christopher, Lord Darlington, arrives with
the news, he doesn't really care, however, when Darlington
spells out the implications for him, he is moved to take
action.
Arriving in London, Nathan attends a ball at Carleton House
and spots his wife in the crowd. As he approaches Evelyn,
he is caught up in how beautiful she looks, but then gets
jealous as he watches her flirt with Lord Dunhill. Acting
with more emotional heat than brilliant planning, he
demands Evelyn leave with him and when she refuses, he
forcibly takes her back to Eastchurch Abbey with him.
As Evelyn is caught between her personal desires and
England's laws that holds her to be her husband's
property. She makes her own plans to change the situation.
But, despite her sparring with Nathan, can she hide from
the new things she learns about Nathan and her own strong
feelings for him? Then, when his life seems to be
threatened, can she really leave him for Dunhill? Can
Nathan ever regain his wife's affection as she struggles to
still deal with her overwhelming grief from the past?
As a master storyteller, Julia London has outdone herself
with this delightful Regency romance with its subtext
plotline of the shenanigans of the Prince and Princess of
Wales as well as subtle links to their more recent
counterparts. The plot line is strong and the dialogue
sparkles with wit and humour. I particularly loved the
Butler, Benton, and a star in his own right, who maintains
the perfect demeanour while all kinds of chaos swirls
around the Lindsey household. Between the suspense and the
romance, you definitely won't want to willingly put this
story down! Thank goodness, this is the start of a whole
new scandalous series!
The Princess of Wales has catalogued the shocking
exploits of the outrageous Prince of Wales and many of his
noble friends in a book that has all of London
aflutter...
Nathan Grey, the Earl of Lindsey, is infamously known as
the Libertine of Lindsey for his scandalous ways with
women. But when he hears gossip that his estranged wife,
Evelyn, is about to be named in The Book of Scandal, he has
no choice but to remove her from London to protect her and
himself from charges of treason—even if it calls for
abduction.
While Evelyn has no legal recourse against the man who
broke her heart years ago but is still considered her lord
and master, she is no longer the immature girl Nathan
married. Her enforced homecoming quickly turns into a
battle of wills that tears down her husband’s defenses and
lays bare the passion that still burns between them. Before
it is too late, Nathan must confront powerful adversaries
as he convinced Evelyn that she is not only his wife, but
the one woman he will love for all time.
