It seems like everyone is running from something or someone
in their past and somehow they are all converging on the
small town Lucinda. Lucinda is barely surviving since the
mines have been all but deserted. The boarding house rarely
has boarders. And the general store/bank is doing it's best
to service those still hanging in there. But Lucinda is
home. Rachel Hudson and her brother Nathan came looking for
a home, looking for a new start and they seem to have found
it there. But unknown to them their past is catching up to
them. The ugliness they ran from has doggedly tracked them
down. Now the question is will the town protect and support
them or will they be forced to once again run for their very
lives. Ranger Jack McCain has been hot on the trail of a
band of murderous thieves who somehow turned the tables on
him leaving him for dead in a blizzard. Battered and bruised
not only by the outlaws but by the storm itself he manages
to hang on to the reins of his horse and winds up on Rachel
Hudson's porch. Is it luck or fate that has brought these
two wounded people together? Neither one is willing to
acknowledge their growing affection for the other. The
secrets of their pasts hang over them like a dark brooding
cloud. A storm is on the horizon and now the question is how
Rachel and Jack weather the storm.
Garrett touches on an often used theme of small towns and
small minds in TOUCH OF TEXAS where a self-determined ruling
family influences the town's opinion of people especially
new comers. All it takes is one turn of a phrase to make the
difference between being respected or despised. This is a
story of people trying to turn around their lives and gain
respectability and perhaps even acquire that elusive goal of
happiness. Even when faced with frightening events the
choices Garrett's characters make stay true to their
personalities and beliefs. Will good triumph over evil?
Pretty tough to call when the evil doers seem to be without
any conscience.
