When his desire for the King's sister, Magdelegna, became
uncontrollable, Gideon did the unthinkable and stalked a
human female. If he had succeeded in coupling with her,
the human would not have lived through it. Humans aren't
made to be able to survive sexual encounters with demons.
Ashamed of what he'd almost done, Gideon exiled himself
for eight years. Now back with his people, working on
being the healer that he is, Gideon's determined not to
let history repeat itself, but even he can't imagine the
type of bond that he will create with Legna.
Magdelegna is a mind demon who's always had a decent
amount of power but of late, her powers have been growing
and the stronger they get, the more it scares her. The
only person who can help her sort out what is going on is
the one person she wants nothing to do with. Humiliated
nine years ago when Gideon kissed her and then chose a
human woman before exiling himself has left a mark on her.
When she discovers Gideon is her mate, she has no recourse
except to accept him.
Gideon has his own reservations about bonding with Legna.
The main one being a secret from his past, if discovered
by her, could rip her from his arms forever. Those worries
and others will all have to wait though. Necromancers are
attacking the demons, specifically Legna's friend,
Isabella, a pregnant druid, and they will stop at nothing
to destroy her and her unborn child. In order to defeat
them, Legna's going to have to depend on Gideon and their
growing bond, but Gideon's guilt from his past mistakes is
making it harder for him to fully commit. Once the truth
is revealed, will they be able to move past it and defeat
their enemies?
Having previously not read JACOB, the prequel to GIDEON, I
was quite pleased the author spent a good portion of the
start of the book re-telling the tale. For those of you
who are familiar with it though, the beginning is going to
be a bit slow going before it picks up. Once Jacquelyn
Frank gets past the re-telling of JACOB though, it becomes
all about Gideon and Magdelegna. The two character's off
set each other perfectly. Gideon's the oldest of his kind
so he's a bit old school; stuffy and pompous. Legna, on
the other hand, is much more of a free spirit. They
compliment each other and are quite entertaining. Also
something I enjoyed was how Ms. Frank seems to be bringing
together all the different races and incorporated them
into the story. I can't wait to see how that goes and
where her fertile mind takes this series. Wherever it goes
though, I imagine she'll have many followers. Myself
included.
They’re called the Nightwalkers—proud, ancient beings who
live in the shadows, existing just beyond the human world.
But there are also dangerous humans who hunt them—
necromancers who use the blackest magic to manipulate them.
And for a Demon named Gideon, the battle against these evil
forces will soon be all too personal…
As A Healer, He Knows Her Body. But It’s Her Heart He
Wants.
For a thousand years, Gideon has healed his people. And as
the oldest surviving male of his race, his wisdom has
always been respected without question. But Gideon knows
that even he is vulnerable to the powerful, primitive
desires that befall his kind during Hallowed moons—and nine
years ago that truth was hammered home when he found
himself claiming Magdalegna, the Demon King’s sister, in a
wild embrace. Horrified by his lack of control, he left her
wanting and furious—and then exiled himself for the better
part of a decade. Now, with necromancers threatening his
people—and Magdalegna nearly their victim—Gideon must face
another truth. He and the beautiful, stubborn Magdalegna
are destined to be together, to share a love as deep and
old as time itself. But first he needs to regain her trust.
Then he’ll have to save her life…
