When two female students, each from wealthy and powerful families, are found gruesomely murdered in the creepy old tunnels that run beneath the campus of a small, prestigious university, FBI agent Kelly Stone and her partner, Roger Morrow, are called in to investigate. In addition to the horrific way the bodies are displayed, there are unusual ancient symbols painted in blood near the victims. The case hits close to home for Kelly, since she's an alumnus of the school.
And Kelly is none too happy when former FBI agent Jake Riley, now working as head of security for one of the dead girls' fathers, arrives to help with the investigation. But when more dead, mutilated bodies turn up -- and a student goes missing -- Kelly decides she'll take whatever help she can get to stop the strange, sadistic murderer before he strikes again.
This debut thriller by Michelle Gagnon grabbed me from the first page and never let go until the shocking climax. It will be interesting to see where Kelly Stone goes from here, as this is the start of a series featuring this gutsy agent. I can't wait to read more from this talented new author.
The crime scenes are both grim and otherworldly. The bodies
of two female students are found mutilated and oddly
positioned in the dark labyrinth beneath the schoolโ
haunting symbols painted on the walls above them.
In her decade tracking serial killers, FBI special agent
Kelly Jones has seen some of the worst humanity can
inflict. Yet the tragedy unfolding at her alma mater chills
her to the bone. Evidence suggests that the connection
between the victimsโdaughters of powerful menโand the
cryptic message behind the killings is rooted in a dark,
ancient ritual. As the body count rises, so do the stakes.
The killer is taunting Kelly, daring her to follow him down
a dangerous path from which only one can emerge.
